Stones was bought though mate.dowell has been in great form last few months and i felt he should have been given game time or at least a spot on the bench last couple of weeks especially now that our season is at an end plus to show that if your doing the business under 21's that you will be rewarded and given ur chance.the under 21's are there to service the 1st team so what motivation is it to the rest of our academy players if your playing really well and influencing games and not been given your chance. It's always nice to see young players getting some game time ofcourse, but for all his faults, it's harsh to give Martinez grief over bedding a lad in slowly, letting him test the water.
Martinez isn't too scared of giving a young player a bit of gametime. He throw Stones right in remember.

Naw mate, he played 4 mins in the last home game, hardly playing a part.I would agree, and to be fair Dowell's played a part in both the past two home games. Easy to stand out at u21's level though, big jump upwards. .

Thinking about it, it probabably wasn't a bad thing getting just four mins, as it passed by almost without comment. You just know from reading the posts on his thread that there's a whole punch of keyboard warriors ready out there waiting for his next game , and if he doesn't score a worldie will be doing a Mother of Brian impersonation " See, he's not the Messiah , he's just a naughty boy."
The Northern Ireland manager is already on record saying he has high hopes for Lavery. That must be very satisfying for all involved, not recognised internationally when he became a scholar, but after a season of development he has been recognised.
Without labouring a point I've made before, the 1st Jan birthday for international squads can make a difference, Feeney is U17 but the likes of Evans and Banigime from the same scholar year are too old for U17 therefore competing against u18s many of whom are 2nd year scholars. He's got a nice style about him and like Foulds who's a year older will fill out a bit in coming years.
Lots of defenders getting recognised, it would be nice to see a goal scoring no9 breaking through ....... or maybe that will be another ginger haired 17 year old , Shayne Lavery.
no that was davies that came on late v Southampton.think Connolly came on around the 60 min mark.Nothing wrong with bedding him though. It's still a contribution, a small one, sure.
Could have swore Dowell came on vs Southampton but must have mistaken him for Connolly or Davies.
he has been on a rich vein of form at the tail end of the season.hopefully he can carry it forward next season.like someone said on here previously we have an abundance of defenders and midfielders but we don't seem to have a good goal scoring threat coming through as was evident with the under 21's this year(dowell top scorer)but hopefully Brewster and lavery can kick on next year. The Northern Ireland manager is already on record saying he has high hopes for Lavery.
Yes he's looked good from what I've seen of him and he's got pace to burn.he has been on a rich vein of form at the tail end of the season.hopefully he can carry it forward next season.like someone said on here previously we have an abundance of defenders and midfielders but we don't seem to have a good goal scoring threat coming through as was evident with the under 21's this year(dowell top scorer)but hopefully Brewster and lavery can kick on next year.

Our u18s results of late have been a contrast to our u 21s, I.e. 11 goals in last 3 games but 13 goals against in the last 4. Whereas the strength of the u 21s has been their defence with comparably few goalscorers . Evans had a good spell pre season, Connolly contributed a few, Dowell has had a late spurt but non of the forwards who played contributed goals regularly in great numbers - Duffus, Dyson, Leandro, Henen, Byrne, Charsley etc.The Northern Ireland manager is already on record saying he has high hopes for Lavery.

The exciting bit is that our goalscoring u18s will be moving up to u 21s next season Brewster, Broadhead, Holland together with Lavery who's a year younger . These guys have the potential to bring something different when allied to Unsy's defensive nous and maybe provide the extra goals needed. It's always difficult to figure out what the coaches are seeing and why they are making their decisions but it's interesting that , as far as I can recall, Lavery is the only one to feature in u 21 games this season and latterly on the bench , ahead of the other older forwards. And playing for Northern Ireland he'll likely be given opportunities in the age groups above him.
