Everton Youth Teams Thread

anyone know when the u21s will play the 2 finals theyre in? seems a bit of a balls up with the season over, are the players going to have to keep training until they get it sorted?!

fraser hornby playing for scotland u17s on eurosport at 12.30
Ta for the heads up , missed original but caught highlights. Yeah, definitely a defensive / central midfielder, playing left side mid field , sometimes central , right footed but able to use left. He looked to be one of the tallest players on the pitch, a bit like Antony Evans size wise. Not at all like Davies and Ledson when they played at this level , they were box to box types, Hornby looks more languid and spent most of his time in front of the back four rarely got forward. He had some good touches though and looked one of the best players in a technically poor Svotland team. The young Rangers player Burt also looked good and when he went off in the 2nd half Hornby took the Captain's armband. While he's clearly a mid field player I wonder if they'll try him as a CB, he seems to have more of a Barry/Eric Dier look about him than say Ledson/ Davies I.e he seems better at breaking up attacks than driving forward and setting them up. Early, early days yet so lots of developing to do I'm just pleased I've seen one teenage Blue on the tv, Feeney up next.

England U17 beat France 2-0 , with Feeney and Chelsea's Chalobah as the two centre backs buttoning up France , allowing them very few chances, helped by France being reduced to 10 men early in the2nd half. Chalobah's had an impressive season for Chelsea's Youth teams , so he will be one of the first names on the sheet, Feeney showed he can form a solid partnership with him and games like this where he hardly put a foot wrong will have a big impact on the coaches.

He showed a no nonsense approach at times , prepared to hoof it in row Z when needed, made a number of telling interceptions and it was impressive that after hoofing the ball downfield with his stronger right foot , the next touch he had he had to cut back inside and clip a pass forward with his left. No surprise in that perhaps , as two footed players are the norm in our academy. His positioning and general cover were excellent, if Chalobah picked up the French centre forward, Feeney would move to cover a cross coming into the near post and cut out a number of passes. England youth always play with two attacking full backs, so they need two good, no nonsense centre backs who won't be caught out if the ball is lost , Feeney showed he has that ability . It's nice to have a completely home grown young centre back to talk about, it will be interesting to see if he , and England , can repeat this performance in the next match which they need to win to progress and how much he himself can progress next season in our U18 and U21s.

yeh, seems badly organised.

I know the other semi-final of the Liverpool Senior Cup (Prescot Cables v Litherland Remyca) has been moved to NEXT season as a pre-season friendly. Due to the bad weather there's been huge fixture pile-ups in non-league so it wasn't possible to fit in. The Quarter Final for Prescot v Tranmere was postponed 4 times due to the pitch!

Great results for our u21s of late :
May
9 May 2016: Manchester City 0-1 Chelsea

6 May 2016: Manchester City 2-0 Liverpool
6 May 2016: Chelsea 0-1 Manchester United
We couldn't have wished for better results as it means they finish 3rd in PL U 21 league and as we already know 2nd in U18 league. Somebody needs to somehow tie Unsy and Sheedy down for a few more years before they get offered deals by some smaller clubs, as they've done a tremendous job.

Thanks for that assessment mate. He is highly thought of and will be interesting to see him in the under 18's next season.
