Everton Youth Teams Thread

We already have a U21 FA Cup thing as it is.
Last season 5 top clubs opted out of this , including the two Manchester clubs. Then there was that competition involving foreign clubs in the group , we lost last game to Porto. And of course the Lancashire and Liverpool Senior cups we entered to get more games in but I don't think were completed. It's a bit of a mess and they're struggling to figure out how to get truly competitive competitions to develop u21 players in , and the FL and National League clubs won't entertain allowing u21s into their league system. i can't see them resolving this any time soon, meanwhile this new competition may help.

Grant looked the stand out player for Doncaster Rovers, could tell he was a player well above Championship standard. He took all their set pieces and they really missed him during his small injury period. Think he wil get into our team if he gets another decent loan spell.

Think Gibson is superb player. Yes he's injured a lot but his passing is the best and when fit a really good squad filler.

This is what I've seen:
You have to think that both Dyson and Grant are going to struggle to be PL players but who knows.
Apparently Gibson has been offered a 2 year contract extension, shudder, to me that's just someone potentially blocking one of our exciting midfield youngsters getting squad time, crazy.

Quite a nice article (and comments) on the state of defending in academies. Do we know much about the main principles we try teach our defenders? Is it all the Stones mould now? I know Holgate is at least like that but I do miss my bruisers.

Certainly interesting, but what I take from that is the ages of the England defenders and how good the two young players are: Cahill (30), Smalling (26), Stones (22), Dier (22)

The problem with good defending is that it needs to be seen over a longer period of time and is more subtle. Sometimes it can be as simple as being stood 2 yards to the left where most players would be 2 yards to the right that will mark you out as a good defender. The art of good defending is focussing your entire attention on minimising risk and preventing danger.

!! Great defenders do a lot of work that often goes unnoticed !!

Just my opinion but I would be very surprised if grant makes it at Everton. Decent player but I think he's already behind a few players, who are a coupe of years younger

Doncaster played in League 1 mate, it with out a doubt appeared that he was a real standout their but the club was relegated this season to League 2.

Grant will make a damn good living as a professional footballer, (probably through the Football leagues and Championship) something we could only dream of but unfortunately he's just not up to the standard to make it here.

Good news about academies competing against the Football League for the JPT. Hopefully its a step towards B Teams.
Apparently some of the PL teams scheduled to be involved are having doubts, including Liverpool. It seems that they are attaching some conditions which are not liked e.g. nobody named in the PL squad of 25 can play in the competition, and they're planning to play games during the international break , when a lot of the U21/u20/u19 etc games get played . The suggestion is that teams will end up with inexperienced youngsters having to play against older FL professionals. I haven't seen these "rules" myself only comments about them so may be wrong.
