Everton Youth Teams Thread

"First I would like to keep all the key players because you don’t sell your best players – but that is about meetings I will have with these players. There is a budget about making the next step. But first you need to know what we have at home – in the Academy – if we need better players in certain positions we will work on that.”

Warms the cockles of my heart, this. Exactly the right attitude. If not, so be it, but don't overlook our lads that may just need a bit of seasoning and go City or Chelsea on us. I hope he really means this.

In addition to Kenny, Connolly, Dowell, Davies and Pennington, Evans, Williams, Walsh, Broadhead, Ledson, Grant, Garbutt, Brewster should be given a chance in the first team.

We should expect to see quite a few kids in action over the early pre-season game. Our players at the Euro's will get an extended break and with Koeman still wanting to figure out the clubs needs and where everyones at I can't see a lot of new signings coming in really early. Especially if a DoF is still a while away.

It'll be a great opportunity for the kids to show Koeman what they've got and I personally look forward to getting t watch them play.

The final goalscoring stats are interesting. In the u21s Dowell was top with 9 goals from 14 starts , then Connolly 6 goals , 21 starts, the rest of the players didn't really contribute significantly on a goals per game basis.
The u18s as we know we're much more exciting re scoring goals . Broadhead 17 / 23 starts; Brewster 11/ 14; Lavery 10/13 ; Evans 7 /8.

Throw in Bassala Sambou , Holland and Donohue and our attacking options and competition for places at u21 level should be exciting next season . As ever a big season for these youngsters coming up and good as they look at youth level some of these are not going to cut it at U21 level.

Was thinking this half way through the season, doesnt seem to be great goalscorers (as in strikers) in the U21's last season, next season looks like there will be a bit more firepower. Interesting to see how this Sambou gets on to be honest, I know Holland has come on, would be interesting to see them push on again.

Be interesting to see how they step up from U18 to U21 football, hopefully some if not all can translate their goal scoring to the U21 team.

How will it work next season with the U21's? I'm assuming the best/eldest from the U18's get promoted to the squad but we only released 3 youth players so if no one moves into the first team squad, won't we have a jam packed squad at U21? I'd say lots of loans but with the no recall until transfer windows rule I think loans may be even more planned out.

Yes that's it in a nutshell. We'll have about 15 first year scholars join in a few weeks, last year's 1st year scholars become 2nd year and last years 2nd year are no longer eligible for u18s e.g Brewster, Broadhead, Holland , Yates, Donahue, Yarney , Kinsella who have never played at u21 so are having to step up to prove themselves. Connolly, Davies, Walsh, and Dowell also featured in the u 18s last year and are also no longer eligible but those four are a step ahead of those others. Then there's Evans, Feeney, Baningime , Lavery and Lees who are still scholars/u 18 and have featured at u21 level . So jam packed indeed.
Getting it right with loans/who stays will be vitally important. Davies as an example benefitted when Walsh and Ledson went out on loan with more u21 games, and also benefitted from playing consistently alongside the more experienced Joe Williams who didn't get loaned.
