Everton Youth Teams Thread

6 of the starting 11 to be U21 (as at June 30)

That's fairly poor from the PL point of view. Be fairly shoddy if a PL team does play 4/5 senior players (even if fringe players) and wins the trophy.

Phil Kirkbride has mentioned on twitter that he expects Everton to use it as an U21 competition. Would be nice for the club to state that officially. I'd hope most teams stick to the spirit of developing U21s. Otherwise, what's the point other than stealing a trip to Wembley from a lower league team.

Suppose that may help people like Browning & Garbutt but 6 is abit excessive

It may make us keep alot of our u21s at the club instead of loaning them out next year, which i think is a good thing.
Id like us to have a proper go at the u21s league next year and with most the lads there that would help, plus for the likes of Davies, Dowell & Kenny it leaves them here so if a spot in the first team squad turns up they aren't away on loan.

1. Renshaw
2. Kenny
3. Connolly
4. Walsh
5. Pennington
6. Holgate
7. Broadhead
8. Williams
9. Sambou
10. Davies
11. Dowell

That dosent even count Galloway, Ledson, Brewster etc. Very strong group

Depending on whom we promote to the senior squad I'm pretty damn confident we'll win the U21 league this year.

I'd pity any team putting 4 senior players in to try win a trophy like that. No other Prem club would respect the win.

I can imagine Pulis resting McAuley, Fletcher, Rondon, Yacob, Evans & Foster in a prem away match vrs united to save them for the big quarter final tie vrs Swindon

A step in the right direction if we use it for u21 development. As we've discussed , the changes to the loan system will have an effect , some clubs are already announcing season long loans for their youngsters. If we could get our u21s playing together at a decent competitive level, developing together over the years and available for 1st team squad that would be my ideal. Backed up by appropriate loans for some.

Hypothetically who would you send out and at what level if you were in charge? I'm kind of glad they won't be able to do the mini Stockport loans etc. this season as they're a little pointless.

(Although did manage to go watch Donohue for my local side Barrow which was cool).

yeh crap timing for them, they'll miss most of pre-season to make an impression on koeman with the first team.
is this comp on telly anywhere does anyone know?
I know at least one game Croatia is, Eurosport 2 I think, I imagine there'll be more.
This is a pretty strong group of youngsters , well individually anyway, and all three have been progressing through the ranks so I have to take it as a positive that they are still deemed good enough. I think a few players like Roberts at Celtic and Cooke of Leeds have been pulled by their clubs, Armstrong of Newcastle injured.
I mentioned the poor timing of this event before, it's hard to tell if they've had their break or still to come. This will finish 21st July at latest so not sure whether they come back already fit for preseason or need a break.
Anyway well done to all three, only Chelsea with 4 have more players and the nice thing is that this time last year these three were probably our highest hope, now they're going to have to fight hard to match the other talented youngsters.

@Saint Domingo @bluebrotha77

I take it that you disagree that both Connolly and kenny looked far more solid at RB than Coleman has in 2 seasons?

In just their debuts they looked FAR better and Kenny in particular actually was positionally far superior to Seamus 'liability' Coleman.

Same as Galloway made us more solid than Baines or Oviedo...

This new crop are clearly taught "defend first".

WOW. Just wow Zat.
