Everton Youth Teams Thread

So Connolly played what 20 mins, Kenny 45 mins, one is 18 the other 19 and it's nonsense to suggest that at this age they are "superior" to An international right back who captains his country.
They've played frequently together for England youth and while neither would have progressed if they couldn't defend the style these days is to have attacking full backs who can scoot down their wing , cross and shoot where necessary which ability both have in abundance. I'm one of the biggest Callum Connolly fans on this thread, he exites me with his wide range of abilities in defence, midfield and going forward but as I said it's nonsense to suggest "they looked FAR better " than Coleman after such limited PL exposure. This season we'll have a much better idea just how good both these talented youngsters will be.

I didnt say they were superior.

I wrote that on their debuts they put in a better performance than Coleman has in 2 seasons. That doesnt mean they could do it in a run of a few games or a season....

Kenny looked amazing on his debut and looked top class for me, in just thst time only, i havent seen coleman do as well in 2 seasons....

If kenny put in the same performance for an entire season hed be in the england team, he really was that good.

Lots of work to be done still of course.

Bear in mind that other than at feyenoord koeman has never played kids....i think we will need to hope they all go on loan to get games and in 3 years when hes gone the new manager plays them if they are good enough.

@Saint Domingo @bluebrotha77

I take it that you disagree that both Connolly and kenny looked far more solid at RB than Coleman has in 2 seasons?

In just their debuts they looked FAR better and Kenny in particular actually was positionally far superior to Seamus 'liability' Coleman.

Same as Galloway made us more solid than Baines or Oviedo...

This new crop are clearly taught "defend first".
Coleman has played at the highest level for a few years now and he has just captained his national team at the euros so as much as i love the 2 lads and they have every chance of making and i really hope they do to say they are better than coleman is mad lad.most of our squad has under performed for the last 2 seasons and we most agree it was down to roberto who untaught our defenders on how to defend.

I thought I remembered seeing somewhere that youth loans have to be fairly long-term ones as from next season.

I hope so mate, one month deals are over too quickly to get a better assesment of a youngsters potential.

I didnt write that they were better than coleman. I said in that space of time they were better than he has been in 2 seasons.

In todays session it looked like Davies, Pennington, Galloway, Dowell & Davies were all with the first team squad. Interestingly on top of this it also looked like Walsh was with the first team as well which I have to say I am delighted about.

I wouldn't say I was overly surprised as he deserves to be there but it's good Koeman has moved him up, if only for pre season and will be interesting what impression he makes over the next 2-3 weeks and in any friendlies. Him and Tom Davies have a really good chance to make a first impression.

No Unsworth either, we are still seeing what his role will entail but doesn't look like he is training with the first team anyway.

I have also read Osman has nearly completed his Uefa A license. Over the next 12 months it would be great to get him back involved in the coaching of the young players as well.

Connor Grant trained too. I suspect Koeman asked Unsworth which of the kids to introduce into training. Could also be that some of them were there to make up numbers with some of the players still on holiday.

I was peering at Sky Sports trying to see who was there , got your first five but didn't see Walsh, so good if he is there. Plus Kenny, Connolly, Ledson away with England . Saw that Big Dunc was training 1st team , so Unsy will be back with u21s , Sheedy with u18s.
It'll be interesting to see u21 training pics as there were a few like Antonne Robinson who were offered contracts but no news on them yet.
Ah yes, I see Walsh in the OS training shots.

Few pics with him in here: http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2016/07/05/gallery-koeman-takes-training

I posted an article a few weeks back which casually mentioned the new FA rules say a loan has to be for the duration until the next window. It's funny we haven't heard more about that at that's a pretty big chance. Good for the kids though and the clubs taking them on loan.

Yes absolutely. I am delighted to see Walsh there and I;m sure he;ll make an impression. The young lads have a good opportunity to stake a bit of a claim. It would have been easy to keep Walsh with the under 21's but glad he's training with the first team squad.

Didn't see any of the sessions as I'm sitting here in Toronto right now, but after reading all that i can conclude just one thing.

We are blessed with an abundance of youth talent- with so many on the verge of making the first team squad. Obviously as we are the great Everton, we chose this time to be taken over by a billionaire.
