Everton Youth Teams Thread

I thought I remembered seeing somewhere that youth loans have to be fairly long-term ones as from next season.

I don't think there are any youth loans next season - I believe its minimum half season loans without recalls (unless you can put recall clauses in?). Which may screw young premiership players because the parent clubs in general won't let them go out unless they want them to leave, or know there is no chance of needing them in the first team for the next half a season. Lower league clubs will be able to keep loanees for at least half a season, but there will be fewer quality ones about. Bad move from the FA in my opinion. please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about this. From a player's perspective, the more loans the better because it gives them a network of ex-gaffers and broadens their experience, in case they don't break through at the parent club.

I'm guessing Browning, and Galloway, for example, won't be able to go out on loan because they might be needed by Everton. Which may further retard their development because they then possibly won't get games.

Yes no youth/ emergency loans this season. This is a FIFA directive , so not the FAs fault, I think they were exploiting a loophole previously but have been brought back into line. My understanding is that the transfer windows now apply to ALL players, essentially you can only make loans, bring back loanees in the transfer windows.

Lots of disadvantages for us e.g. both Connolly and Pennington played after returning early from loans last season. I think Kenny's had finished. There was talk at one time of having a clause that allowed a player to play at u21 level for his parent club , but not the 1st team. I'm not sure if that is still in, but would allow a player to play u21 games if not being picked at the loan club.

Don't think there's any connection with English clubs, raised in Netherlands with English parents and apparently keen to make it in the iEngland international system so turned down offers from Spanish clubs . Will be a first year Scholar if 16 and will be a year or two before we know if he's any good. Great bit of scouting by somebody though to pick him up.

I take it that you disagree that both Connolly and kenny looked far more solid at RB than Coleman has in 2 seasons?

In just their debuts they looked FAR better and Kenny in particular actually was positionally far superior to Seamus 'liability' Coleman.

Same as Galloway made us more solid than Baines or Oviedo...

This new crop are clearly taught "defend first".

Always interesting to see who've signed up. Alex Denny looked good in the Dallas tournament, a fair size and played a few u18 games towards the end of the season.
Fraser Hornby was on the u18 bench a few times, not sure if he started. He's been playing for Scotland u17s in the Euro tournament, and in the games I saw in TV he looked composed , stylish and seemed to play quite far back , ahead of the defence , behind midfield. He's easily recognisable on the pitch with his hair style and tall frame.
Manasse Mampala is the only other one I can remember appearing in last season's u18 squad, no info on him though except what the OS says.

So Connolly played what 20 mins, Kenny 45 mins, one is 18 the other 19 and it's nonsense to suggest that at this age they are "superior" to An international right back who captains his country.
They've played frequently together for England youth and while neither would have progressed if they couldn't defend the style these days is to have attacking full backs who can scoot down their wing , cross and shoot where necessary which ability both have in abundance. I'm one of the biggest Callum Connolly fans on this thread, he exites me with his wide range of abilities in defence, midfield and going forward but as I said it's nonsense to suggest "they looked FAR better " than Coleman after such limited PL exposure. This season we'll have a much better idea just how good both these talented youngsters will be.
