I've got mixed feelings about that. It's always good when we scout and identify a player to fill a position that's currently a weakness , but I wonder where we play him . U18s is most obvious but does it help him much re stepping up a level. Though it makes sense if it's a waeakness identified currently at u18 level. U23 seems chock full of right backs like Jones and Kenny plus others who can play there like Connolly, And returnees Brownng and Pennington. I would love to see us start taking risk by spending real money on potential emerging talent , maybe £4 mill to £6 mill on say a highly talented youngster particularly a forward/striker. We seem to go for low risk , didn't cost much type of forwards who may come off but no big loss if they don't e.g. Henen, Sambou, Calvert-Lewin, Tarashaj. We've been scouting Cambridge United 16 year old right back Leon Davies, along with every other club around.

I've been punting this theory for years.i call it the mini galatico theory.. Well it was when we were skint. But that to me is how you get the next Bale. Spend pretty big or BIG on a youngster. A guy that at 18 is almost or is ready for the first team
Agreed. I'd rather us go big and sign someone like Leon Bailey (young player of the year in Belgium, plays like Raheem Sterling) or Alexander Isak (17 year old Swedish striker already scoring in top division) who fill positions we are weak in than 28 year old established players.

If Sunderland go down id strongly consider Pickford his distribution is comparable with a continental keeper &Id like us to do this with a goalkeeper, go and get who ever is the best young goalkeeper in england or even europe at say- 18-20. Then loan him out for a few years, no rush to get him in the first team and by the time he is 23/24 ready for the first team in goal

He has lighting reflexes. We could easily loan him back for a year in the championship to help them try & get promoted
Any relation to Bryan the Norwich goalieThere's no doubt about it, Pickford is easily the best out there but he'll cost a right few bob.
I'd still pay it but if you want to take a cheaper gamble, Angus Gunn is another who will be very, very good.

I was very impressed with Pickford when we played Sunderland u21's last season live on sky his speed distributing the ball & accuracy reminded me of Fabian barthez. It is yes, it's his son.
I've been posting about Pickford for some time as I know a lot of coaches who have worked with him at all levels and he's destined for Englands number 1. He will be ahead of Butland IMO.
Gunn is also very good, I actually think he has half a chance of making the break through at City in the next 18 months and to be honest, that's bordering on impossible but there's so much talent that could be syphoned off them as they are spoilt for riches at every level.
Back to Gunn though, he wouldn't be cheap either but nothing like Pickford.
