Everton Youth Teams Thread

To be fair, the OS says Duffus has 4 goals in 2 starts and Dyson has 6 in 6 starts so they haven't done badly really.
That startled me, but the OS is usually crap on such matters so I checked YouthHawk which is more reliable. For overall games played which is PL2 (U23s league) and the various tournaments this season it gives the following for : Total starts, sub appearances, total goals scored :
Dyson : 10 starts , 6 subs, 7 goals
Duffus. : 2. , 9 , 2
And for interest
Niasse 7 , 0, 7
DCL : 10, 0 , 4.

Both Duffus and Dyson are out of contract come June, I'd be very surprised if they are given extensions.

Some of our midfielders seem to be banging them in as well. It's a bit odd for Dyson and Duffus to be getting games if they're not part of the long-term picture. I mean the whole point of the u23s is to prepare players for the first team.

Looks like there are a few of the under 23s who have a big 6 months if they are to earn an extension. OS has the following as out of contract in 2017

Browning
Kenny
Griffiths
Robinson
Hewelt (under 18s)
Donohue (under 18s)
Charsley (under 18s)
T. Duffus (under 18s)
Dyson (under 18s)
McAleny
Yarney (under 18s)
Holland (under 18s)
Yates (under 18s)
Jones
Hunt
Williams
Brewster (under 18s)

A few don't have any updated details on their contrcat situation.

The likes of Browning, Jones and McAleny are at or coming to a crossroads in their careers. I'd like to see Browning extended as I thought he looked decent before his injury. Interesting that a number of the youth keepers and forwards deals are up.A few of the players are still classified as under 18s so probably have a decent chance of extensions but it would leave the likes of Kenny, Robinson, Williams who are all highly rated sweating a bit.

...it's a brutal business. The club are probably not only thinking who might break through but who might they get a fee for. Saying that, if they haven't already offered extensions to Kenny and Browning their future at Everton must be in doubt. I dare say a few of these will get clubs.

Last time out in the Premier League 2: Everton U23 4-1 Leicester City U23 (evertonfc.com)

Everton Under-23s moved back to the top of the Premier League 2 table with an excellent 4-1 win over Leicester City on Monday evening. Callum Connolly nodded Everton ahead with his first goal of the season, only for the lead to be wiped out by Foxes winger Jeff Schlupp on 23 minutes. Two goals in quick succession at the start of the second half from Oumar Niasse and Harry Charsley then put David Unsworth’s side in firm control. Niasse tapped in from inside the six-yard box just moments after the restart before turning provider in the Toffees’ next attack, cutting the ball back for Charsley to steer in with a precise first-time effort. Courtney Duffus stepped off the bench late on to complete the scoring with a composed far-post finish. The victory sees Everton leapfrog Manchester City to occupy a two-point advantage at the summit of the standings after 12 fixtures.

Spotlight: Everton under-23 head coach David Unsworth

David Unsworth made over 300 appearances for the Toffees in two spells at the club, in between a stint at West Ham United, across 12 years. The 42-year-old scored 34 times in the Premier League for the Merseyside club, and was well known as a dead ball expert despite being a defender. After leaving Goodison Park, spells at Portsmouth, Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, Wigan Athletic, Burnley and Huddersfield Town followed before he called time on his playing career in 2009. Unsworth then turned to coaching as Preston North End's first-team coach and that was later followed by a return to his former side Sheffield United as head of academy. In 2014 the defender rejoined to his boyhood club Everton and became under-23s coach.

Key battle: Michael Ledger v Courtney Duffus

While Kieran Dowell has been one of the standout performers in the Toffee’s development squad, with five goals in just 12 appearances, Courtney Duffus has slipped under the radar. The towering centre-forward arrived at Everton alongside younger brother Tyrone in the summer of 2012. Previously at Cheltenham Town, Duffus helped Everton under-18s clinch the Premier League title in May 2014 and he has since become a regular with the club’s development side. Duffus has gone from strength to strength this campaign with an average of one goal every three matches (four in 12) this season. Duffus’ physical presence will undoubtedly cause Michael Ledger some defensive issues as the Toffees look to fend off Manchester City in the race for the title.

Looks like Connor Grant may be moving to Donny permanently in the summer.

Ferguson - Permanent Deal Was Agreed For Everton Youngster

Doncaster Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says a permanent deal was agreed with Everton for youngster Conor Grant.

The young midfielder cut-short a loan spell in the Championship with Ipswich Town to return to the Keepmoat for a second time after having a successful loan spell with Doncaster last season.

Grant has signed on loan until the end of the season when Ferguson is hoping to make the move permanent if everything goes to plan and he admitted, a permanent deal was agreed last week but Grant wanted to keep his options open until the summer.

"Everything has got to go as well as we want it too," Ferguson told BBC Radio Sheffield .

"He`s got to help us be successful this season as a club and that is all I am looking at.

"We did agree a fee with Everton for a permanent deal but he wanted to keep his options open, which I totally respect."

The 21-year-old make 21 appearances for Doncaster last season scoring four goals until an injury forced an early return to Goodison Park in February.

Looks the player profiles on the OS haven't been updated, signed a new deal in Septmeber through to 2019
The OS is crap for info, last time I looked they didn't even have proper profiles on Julys Scholars.
We have a bunch of last year's u18s out of contract come June including likes of Brewster , Broadhead, Donahue, Holland and of the 2nd year Scholars their contracts will be up in June too, the only one I can recall who's got a professional deal is Antony Evans , though they'd be crazy not to tie down Feeney if he hasn't been already, and Baningime, Lavery , Kiersey and Bramall too.

Got Doncaster v Portsmouth on in background , Grant playing left midfield, had a few touches, is getting involved, covering back in defence too , looks like he'll fit in but nothing to show yet that we should keep him . Cue worldly soon.
