Everton Youth Teams Thread

I'm a big Pennington fan and last night, barring the foul for the pen, further enhanced my opinion of him. He's not massive but is dominant in the air, reads the game well, has tidy feet and most importantly is positionally spot on.

These days defenders go into midfield chasing and pressing, but such moronic movements break the defensive unit and leave space in behind to be exploited; Pennington's default initial movements are to retreat into the box and defend outwards, something beyond too many highly rated and very expensive kids these days.

Hyperbolic maybe, but I see a lot of the John Terry/Carragher pure defender in him, and feel he could develop into one of the very best in the league given a few years Premier League experience.

Great post mate and I agree wholeheartedly. I prefer him to Galloway. He is a bit Carragher like as well.

I don't see a big future for the lad.

I know it's all about opinions. But for me the young lad next to him feeney was every bit as good on the night. And I think he's only 17/18.

You talk about him retreating. Late on when the Utd kid hit the bar. I felt it was poor defending from him, he was marking him. Then he dropped off allowing him to turn and shoot.

Opinions on this? Not too sure myself
Bainbridge has never looked like he'd get into our U23s . Donohue looked quite sharp last season playing for the u18s, I remember commenting that he looked more of a threat on the ball than Holland, now at WHU. Seemed to be a pacy tricky forward , of the two I'd say he is most likely to impress in a one off game . Good luck to them both, I believe their cobtracts expire in June .

Bit surprised about Donohue myself. He's very quick right winger & seems to have a good eye for a cross. Can't particularly think of any players in U23 set up who have those attributes.

Seems we just can't seem to sell this guy. How long is left on his contract?
