Everton Youth Teams Thread

I was talking to two of the under 18's a few weeks ago ,, and asked about walsh they said he is really something else, i said but he looked small, both said try getting the ball off him he is really a lot stronger than he looks its not easy. Saying that they were only 15 and 16 i think but both were a bit in awe of him.
Walsh is probably the most ready to come through but the problem is he has a lot of people in front of him, especially with Macca staying. Think Macca may go in the summer and Walsh will take his place in the squad then.

I'm not overly concerned at his size. From what I've seen the lad is more than capable of looking after himself. He also stood out in the rough and tumble of league 2 with Yeovil, plus size was never a barrier for the likes of Scholes and Xavi. Not saying Walsh has their level of skill but he is an outstanding prospect and seems to have the right attitude too.

Due to the gaps in our squad, I think it more likely that we'll see game time this season for the likes of DCL, Kenny, Dowell, possibly Pennington and this new lad Donkor. Depends on injuries really. DCL when fit, and Kenny, are the most likely to regularly make the match day squads. I just wish Kenny would apply himself better on the odd occasion that RK attends an U23 match. He's normally quite consistent but has tended to have a horror show whenever RK turns up. He regularly trains with the first team squad so at least RK sees him on a daily basis.

Does anyone else think that the loans seem a little random? It's not like the best lads go out as a rule, though some of them actually do!

Not really; some of them (Connolly, Browning etc.) will go out for experience before potentially joining the first team in the future, I suspect the loans of players like Gethin Jones, McAleny, Rodriguez, maybe Dyson are to tout them for other clubs come the summer transfer window. The U23 squad was massive by normal standards and a lot of promising younger players were being held back by older players with no real future.

Dyson going out for example gives Sambou more opportunities.

Duffus had a very good 70 minutes on Monday against the number 1 center half in their club, Sambou also did well, Donker is a good footballer expect him to have a run out later in season Pennington is my old fashion defender, ideal for back 3, Faulds is still very young but expect him to progress into a back 3 player, Walsh is the best player, but needs to grow into himself, Kenny was off on Monday, but he's a good player.
All u 23s can progress with some club or other, but quite a few can do a job for us in the next few years.
Two or three can be intergraded at a time if managed carefully, over the next 18 months

Indeed. It may sound harsh but loaning out the likes of Dyson, Leandro , McAleny and Jones is our U23 equivalent of the first team clear out. I can't see any coming back and having a career with us , but all are young enough to make a career in the game so good luck to them.
I was a wee bit disappointed we didn't get any more new U23s faces in but it's a chance for promising u 18s like Feeney, Baningime , Kiersey to make a mark and to see if they rate 1st year Scholars like Hornby and Deny high enough to give them a shot at U23s .

Despite all the loans etc only Dyson from Monday's squad that beat Man U is missing and the team that finished the game was one of the youngest we've fielded this season. It's exciting to see if we can hold onto top spot and if these youngsters can rise to the challenge.

Spot on.

I would add that I think Walsh wanted to have a look them all first hand which is why the squad wad so large. Fully expected this level of loans in this last window.

What height is Walsh ?
He does look small, but I suppose that depends on the players around him.

I thought Dowell was a certainty for a loan move and I wonder what it means when gets one.
He's about 5'6". So not a midget by any means but small by footballers standards. Same size as Scholes and inch shorter than Xavi, two of the best midfielders in recent memory.

Like to see them try for the top 4 in the under 18s. See how the game against Blackburn goes. if we don't win it, then I'd like to see Deny and Hornby given a shot in the U23s.

Did Hennen go out yesterday. Remember seeing talk of it, possibly a French team, but don't recall seeing any confirmation?
