Everton Youth Teams Thread

was thinking last time I watched him who he reminded me of bit of a Kevin Richardson about him, does lots well, gets about, without really standing out like some do. but a good player none the less

..that's interesting, I like comparison with other players. As you say, he doesn't stand out like others but he's the type every team needs. I saw him quite a few seasons ago as a young lad playing against a Brazilian international for Man Utd and he was really competitive. That performance singled him out for me, not fancy but gritty.

you can see thats already happening over last 9 months or so

I agree but there breeding absolute beasts in these academies now. I just don't see him being particularly big or athletic enough in the future.

I have no axe to grind with Morgan, I know him well and knew him when he went to St Marys in Crosby. He's the best of our 18s but that's nothing special as they are a poor bunch. None of them will be good enough for Everton imo.

I don't really rate Feeney to be honest, he's the best of a bad bunch IMO.

I know he's doing well now and he's highly rated but I think he'll have to grow considerably physically and as an athlete, in all areas, to make it at the top level.
That's a fair point , the physicality side. The first game I saw Feeney play for England U17s he was alongside Trevor Chalobah of Chelsea who was captain and absolutely dominated the defence that day and physically Feeney looked puny compared to him. Chalobah is actually younger and has been promoted to the U19s , he looks a beast of a player , much the same way as Gomez , now at the RS , did when he was at Charlton. It would also be a fair to say I'm hanging my hat on Feeney cos I don see anyone close in his age group, but hey I'm happy with that , just so long as my desire to see him do well doesn't sent cloud my judgement. I just love it when a young Everton player is doing well for club and country at whatever level, it's a great bonus if they succeed into our first team.

There's nothing wrong with that, I'm exactly the same, I love seeing our youth coming through.

I said it some months ago before our bad results became more prominent and when others believed our 18s were capable of making the elite group, but IMO the 18s are poor. I don't think any of them will make it however there's about 7 or 8 in the older group (u23 age) who could do really well and there's plenty of talent in the age groups below.

It's just the 18s that are really weak IMO but our academy is still very strong.

Time to get Kenny in I reckon at RB on Sunday and see what hews made off. Ideal opp now with 2 home games and Williams out. Id move Holgate to CB with Jags.
Kenny plays well and keeps his place for the last few games we could have a ready made replacement for Seamus. If hes not ready hel get game time which will help and we know we need to buy in the summer.

same and i think it's what we have to do, especially against vardy's pace. But fully expect Holgate Pennington Jags Baines

.... which, well, i think we just have to hope we can outscore leicester because the pace of those centre backs vs him could be terrible to watch. Would much rather have holgates pace back there alongside jagielka.

good chance vardy will be rested ahead of the atletico madrid game. hopefully they rest the whole team.

Yep think I said in another thread. Vardy against jags n Pennington is scary

FYI, Dallas Cup squad from the OS:

Everton Under-18s have jetted out to the United States looking to retain their Dallas Cup crown.

The young Blues return to the Lone Star State a year after winning the week-long prestigious youth tournament in 2016.

A group of 28 players and staff, led by coaches Kevin Sheedy and assistant Paul Tait, departed Manchester airport on Thursday morning, bound for Texas via Atlanta.

Everton get their campaign under way on Sunday 9 April (6.30pm UK time) against hosts FC Dallas at the 92,000-capacity Cotton Bowl stadium - a venue used at the 1994 World Cup.

They will play further group games against Israeli side Maccabi Haifa on Monday 10 April (6pm UK time) and then Monterrey of Mexico on Wednesday 12 April (kick-off TBC).

If Everton progress to the knockout stages, the semi-finals take place on Friday 14 April, with the final being held on Sunday 16 April.

The travelling squad is as follows:

Daniel Bramall
Delial Brewster
Michael Collins
Alex Denny
Stephen Duke-McKenna
Anthony Gordon
Ryan Harrington
Aaron Jones
Sid Kerr
Callum Lees
Nathan Moore
Liam Morris
Con Ouzounidis
Ben Pierce
Tom Scully
Mike Virtanen
Tom Warren

how is brewster still eligible?!
hes 20 in about 6 months

Dallas Cup competitive group is U19. Not sure why they use that age range, but that's what it is.

*Bit of trivia, the Dallas Cup competitive group is named for Gordon Jago, formerly a Charlton player and manger of several clubs including Millwall, QPR, Tampa Bay Rowdies, and most recently the Dallas Sidekicks (an indoor soccer squad)

**All these groups are competitive, but the Super Group is a top class level
