Everton Youth Teams Thread

Does Joe Williams being in tonight's first team squad spell the end for Liam Walsh at Everton?
It will be scandalous for me if they let Walsh go. He's a much better player than Williams for me.

I wonder if it down to size? Williams is bigger and maybe RK things he will be able to handle the physical stuff. But Walsh seemed to cope ok in div 2 last year

Time to get Kenny in I reckon at RB on Sunday and see what hews made off. Ideal opp now with 2 home games and Williams out. Id move Holgate to CB with Jags.
Kenny plays well and keeps his place for the last few games we could have a ready made replacement for Seamus. If hes not ready hel get game time which will help and we know we need to buy in the summer.

A quick preview of Monday nights u23 game against Tottenham. The Sunday game against Leicester is obviously a priority which will disrupt the U23s side for Monday. Holgate and Pennington are likely to play and Kenny in the squad , even if they don't play I'd expect that given our injuries they will not be allowed to play U23s. All three started the last game against Derby so it leaves big holes in our defence. Feeney will come in as one CB , but we're thin on the ground in defence. Foulds could start at left CB but perhaps more likely is to put Robinson there with Foulds at left back. There's no obvious right back . Charsley has filled in on occasions but obviously he's inexperienced there. James Yates could play RB , his natural position, but he hasn't had much game time lately.

Joe Williams also played against Derby, maybe he'll be available if he doesn't get on on Sunday, but Walsh and Beni playing together won't weaken the side. Up front Sambou looked really sharp in the last game , Dowell is getting back to his best form , and Duffus likely to lead the attack , with Charsley playing somewhere. I wonder if he doesn't get game time at the weekend whether Lookman would be played.

It'll be a shame if the injuries to the first teamers and the loans weaken our side to the extent of costing us points but Unsy will have them fired up for the game.

As @blueloon says, I would think it will be Holgate and Pennington along with Baines and Jagielka. Kenny on the bench.

Interesting about Joe Williams as well - maybe size was a factor as Gueye is already pretty small and adding in another short midfielder would give away too much against a team with plenty of tall powerful players.

I like that group, but FCD could surprise. They have one of tre top American academices.

I don't think we'll be anywhere near as good as last year, I hope I'm wrong though.

I haven't seen United's squad yet but I think they'll have far too much for us is if they go strong.

What kind of players are Feeney and Foulds? Both old fashioned centre backs?

This season weve seen, Davies, Holgate, Lookman and DCL In the first 11. Williams and Kenny on the bench too....do you think we may see any other names moved up for games/experience?

Feeney for me is the one with the most potential of our u18s, ahead of Evans and Baningime, although we know that overall they are a poorer bunch of players than in recent years. For one so young , recently turned 18 , he does look like a proper defender , not afraid to go forward with the ball when needed but hes not Stones in that aspect. Curiosly he's never been played at full back for the U23s , it's either CB or bench and even when he's come on as a sub they've shuffled things to play him CB. It looks like it's working, he shows a lot of composure when he's captained England u18s, with the proviso of course that he's playing against other 17/18 year olds. I like to think that being selected as captain of your country shows he has the right mentality. He's still quite slight of build , has grown a bit in the past 12 months, if he can continue to grow to a reasonable size, keeps on developing and we have the patience with him that all young defenders need then we could have quite a prospect on our hands. But early days yet. Oh and he's managed to score a few goals this season , 4 or 5 i think in total for us and England.

Foulds is a left sided CB , a yearish older than Feeney, who as far as I can remember has only played at left back for the U23s this season. It's too early to judge him, Robinson has kept him out of the LB spot , Feeney should be ahead of him for any CB position. Again time is on his side to develop.

I don't really rate Feeney to be honest, he's the best of a bad bunch IMO.

I know he's doing well now and he's highly rated but I think he'll have to grow considerably physically and as an athlete, in all areas, to make it at the top level.

Hope he proves you wrong like I suspect he will.

...RK did say he wanted Besic to play a couple of U23 games, he might get a run.

...I think Williams gets around the pitch really well and can play the closing down game that RK likes. That's why he's possibly ahead of other more talented players in the queue. You're also right, he's a reasonable height and can compete in the air.

was thinking last time I watched him who he reminded me of bit of a Kevin Richardson about him, does lots well, gets about, without really standing out like some do. but a good player none the less
