Evertons Net Spend under David Moyes

How did Moyes know how long he was going to be there?
Regardless I thought we spent a load of money on our youth team didn't we? Hence the likes of Rodwell, Barkley, Duffy

Firstly a manager should be overseeing all aspects of the playing side putting his mark on the youth set up should be a foundation stone as soon as his feet are under the table.

Even allowing for the notorious merry go round that is EPL management once he'd exceeded the average tenure of 2 years he had a decision to make - was he staying or going?

IMO those early years of " learning his trade" the talk of succession to the Utd hot seat went to his head I always thought he looked at us as a stepping stone and consequently long term planning was never on the radar.

Only the past 3 seasons have I thought he realises what a number he's got here and it's been time wasted - fortunately Rodwells sale has transformed an absolute disasterous youth policy into a mildly sh1te one.

badges, banners and scarfs from the club shop mate.

can i ask how us getting a new stadium would help us financially? i know the obvious reason would be to attract investors/buyers, but apart from that, this will not generate more money for us? you look at arsenal and of course it has helped them, because before their ground was too small for their fans + tourists. however, you look at us and we don't sell out anymore because the tickets prices continuously go up and hence less fans can afford it. therefore, this would still be the same problem if we were to have a brand spanking new stadium which would almost certainly see ticket prices go up further to cover the few hundred million loaned. another main reason that it has benefited arsenal is because they are situated in the capital, london, a world famous tourist destination. no offence to the locals on here but liverpool is not exactly a holiday people undertake.

sorry if i'm getting this wrong, could anyone clarify this situation?

The "new stadium" panacea has bewitched fans of many clubs for a decade the fact it's done nothing for those diving in must be ignored at all costs.

If anyone does bring it up the words "hotel, corporate and revenue streams" trip off the tongue like juice from well oiled whore.

**** me that Arsenal board have been right [Poor language removed] to Wenger

team-53.htm

Shocking amount for a PL club to spend - must have been trousering it etc. etc.

Edit : Ha ha not only doesnt the quote button work for me but images don't post either - cool.

True, can't imagine how many corporate boxes we would need to pay back the loan interest, let alone the loan itself, let alone start seeing some income of note from the purchase of a new stadium, not even taking into account actually getting people in to pay for the many corporate boxes in the first place.
I've always thought if we got a new stadium early in Moyes tenure we would simply have a massive amount more debt and Moyes would of had even less to spend, we would be probably be selling to survive long before the last few years.

Thank god we just take out loans for the sake of it.

The Kings Dock would have been the making of us ( in my view ) superb location, increased revenue via corporate boxes ( city centre location, would have been top drawer ) big naming rights, summer concerts etc etc it was a money spinner, and all for the price of Andy Carroll.

We have a decent transfer summer ( for a change ) all due to Moyes ( in my view ) and we have people ready to sacrifice their first born for Saint Bill " biggest blue in the milky way " Kenwright.

I'm sorry, the man has been a failure for Everton.

Considering we rely so much on bank loans im pretty sure the global recession has a little bit to do with it.

Banks are less willing to loan and want their money back, increased interest etc etc

Unlike a lot of other clubs our owners are not willing to even give the club an interest free, or at least, a low interest loan.

I think you have Net spend and Gross spend mixed up there buddy.

Most of the TV money is tied up in wages anyways, same with all the other clubs, they just make a higher profit or have a generous board to increase spending.

OK mate it's a gross spend of £5.6M over 11 years. Moyes really is a miracle worker.

Nail's head, meet hammer.

The global banking crisis kicked in during the latter part of 2008, starting in the United States. By mid-2009 it was kicking down Britain's front door. As a result, businesses all over the country suddenly found banks putting more pressure on them to repay existing loans and refusing to grant new ones. Everton is a business and had pre-existing long-term loans; the previous tactic of regular re-financing by borrowing at a better rate to consolidate/pay off existing loans became unworkable and some drastic belt-tightening took place.

Economics is not rocket science.

Something is not right really.

I believe that our shirt sponsorship for example, brings in around half of what Fulham's does. Something that Elstone never seems not to mention in his back slapping blogs.

Thank you.

This is the kind of discussion I was looking for and it totally explains why spending was reduced so sharply.

So its not Kenwrong is stealing money or Moyes is a God, its those freaking Bankers again.

I think our board's general ineptitude is a big reason though. Our commercial deals seem to be weaker than you'd expect for a club of our stature, and that kind of permeates throughout our dealings.

We're a big sh*t sandwich financially, only held together by Moyes'/the scouts' knack of finding 'bang for your buck' deals.

Indeed, I've just been looking into shirt sponsorship, it seems Villa take around twice as much money, Newcastle almost 3 times as much and Sunderland have a deal that is potentially worth five times as much.

It's not good enough really is it.

Correct, the Sunderland deal is unreal compared to ours.

I'm sick of seeing stories on Newsnow from Bluekipper, with people saying " Give Bill credit " because we made a few signings.

Signings that we were desperate for and needed because our sqaud has been decimated for the past few seasons.
