F1 2024 (and other motorsport) thread

Actually i guess you could say the amount he cut across was a misjudgment but the actual move itself to crowd him out under braking was intended. He just [Poor language removed] it up, if he just admitted this rather than crying about how Lando 'can't just keep sending it' (he absolutely can) then he probably wouldn't get quite as many pelters.

Max places his car round the track with almost complete accuracy, he knows exactly how much space to leave so I don't think we can call it a misjudgement. The idea is he pushes Lando onto or over the rumble strips, losing a bit more breaking performance/traction accelerating away from the corner, giving Max a chance to fight down the next straight into turn 3.

He expects everyone to jump out of his way and avoid contact that he initiates. Lando finally grew a pair and didn't back out. Max has always been and always will be a bully, the only way to change this is to stand your ground and not jump out of his way.

I think he intended to crowd him out for the reasons you said but im not entirely sold on him purposely trying to put him onto the rumble strips. Drivers make small misjudgments under pressure quite regularly, even the best ones.

Another similar example. In hindsight, Norris probably could have used the rumble strips and avoided the collision without traction loss issues on exit. Not that this makes it his fault as he braked in a straight line and when he started braking there was a cars width between him and Verstappen.

Isn’t the main difference there what happens after the squeeze though. He squeezes Norris, then there is contact, and then he makes sure that he has to go off track which is why he picks up the puncture. Surely after contact he could have turned more tightly should he have wanted too?

If you pause the video or watch very closely you can see he has a puncture from the initial contact before Norris turns in and clips him, the puncture is why he understeers off track. His steering and car movement after the initial contact seems entirely in line with someone with a left rear puncture.

Fair enough. Thought the puncture was from the second contact when Norris’ front right hits his rear left.
