F1 2024 (and other motorsport) thread

I supposed it all depends what they were told at the pit stops which we don't know yet. If Piastri had been told they're on for a 1-2 and they'll switch them back after he won the lead and led for 40 laps, then you could say he played a blinder in managing his tires and the 5-second gap is a moot point.

In any case the team has taken the gloss off Oscar's first race win - gutted for him.

Pretty bad sportsmanship from Norris here though, especially since he knows all too well how it is to wait years for your first race win.

From Norris's point of view he was the driver who didn't go veering off the track completely unforced thus losing the best part of 4 seconds. Then being told to drop a 5 second lead with Verstappen (at that time) possibly still in the hunt. I think defining a finishing order based on 40 laps of a 70 lap race wouldn't sit well with any driver as they are ultimately in competition with each other regardless of team colours.

I can see his point but it'll be water under the bridge once the focus shifts away from this weekend and the next race begins to dominate thoughts. Unless he loses out on the Driver's Championship by 7 points or less

I think this is all but set. They’ve done it the last two years because Spa is easier to overtake at. They don’t have the advantage this year where they can get away with it I don’t think. He will pick off Alpine and Haas or whatever but even that DRS isn’t going to make it easy to get the rest.

The Red Bull is still the best car in a straight line, if their overall pace and tyre deg is decent he shouldn't have too much trouble making his way towards the podium.
