Masterful drive by Max today.

And a reality check for Lando, not champion-material yet

To be fair, the bar to be champion material is highly dependent on circumstances out of your control. For example Jenson Button only had to beat Rubens Barichello to win an F1 title (and maybe a late charging Vettel). Whereas Lando is going up against a certified all-time great. If he had been in last years Red Bull instead of Verstappen he would have won a title and been deemed championship material. The bar to be champion is constantly changing and so long as Max is in a top team that bar is going to be stupidly high relative to what some other champs have had to do to win a title.

Hopefully he will gain more experience, the title was always a long shot even going back to Hungary.

Great result for Alpine, fair play to them. Verstappen drove well and controlled the race, there’s no doubt about that but certainly lucked in with the safety car, then red flag. I just had a funny feeling things would align for him today. He had the benefit of a new power unit for this weekend too. We saw when Hamilton won here a few seasons back how much of a help it can be at a track where you can overtake. Sadly, the championship is certainly over.

The new engine's effectiveness would have been limited a fair bit in the wet though, that said it's better to have a new engine than an old one.

Clean air/No spray was king today I think. Verstappen stalled at the end of his first stint behind Leclerc and then later behind Ocon. When he got got past Ocon at the start of the final stint you saw the real pace deficit between the Red Bull and Alpines. Norris never got a chance to show McLarens true pace as he was stuck behind traffic for the entire race thanks to another sloppy start off the line.
