A cup win goes down in history, it shows your clubs success, getting fourth is getting fourth. A Cup all day everyday, nobody remembers who finished fourth, ever. Couldn't call ourselves the fourth most successful club if we don't win anything or had it been this way in the past how do you quantify success?

I mean the club is remembered for it's trophy haul, any club, that is how you measure success. $th makes me mad it has descended to this, devaluing a great cup competition to finish 4th, sad times.

FA Cup all day long. It doesn't even come close.

The idea Champions League qualification transforms a club and sets you up for future success is overrated. Spurs reached the final of it less than two years ago, look at them now.

They’ve finished 3rd or 2nd in the league three times in the past five seasons, not sure Spurs prove your point. It’s not about getting to the final, it’s just about taking part regularly.

Champions League qualification is extremely important. It grows the brand, attracts better players, and increases revenues significantly. Getting to the group stage is worth tens of millions.

4th is auto group stages now

Wigan beat City and got relegated.

There is no reason why in a one off game you can’t come out on top.

Agree with the sentiment although that City side had pretty much downed tools for Mancini at that point.

The current City are a different beast and I cant see them not going all the way unless they have a rare off day and we are at our very best.

Short term success FA cup, long term success, Champions League.

The money that comes from just qualifying from the CL could set us up to be a good team for a few years, which may lead to trophies.
So it’s a hard one but I take CL.

No more buying Swanseas best players we will be competing for the best players everywhere and not just because of our manager.
We have signed a lad from Norwich who’s alright and a couple of lads from Watford who seem to be ok as well like ?

This thread should be paraphrased as "do you want short-term or long-term success?", seriously. I just cannot understand the logic behind people choosing the FA cup over CL. A FA cup, is a watered down competition these days and it's only going to be a flash in the pan success, just look at Wigan; won the FA Cup in 2013 and now lingering in League one.

Now top 4? History and pattern suggests that, when teams enter the top 4, they tend to hold down that position for many seasons. Once Spurs got top 4 in 15/16, they managed it for another 4 seasons straight. Once Liverpool got top 4 under Klopp's first full season, they managed to lock that down for a while too. Now, realistically speaking, the CL spot is only open to one more team, that isn't a "traditional top 6" side. That position is between us, West Ham and Leicester. After the top 6, I'd say we are on the same level of stature as West Ham or Leicester. Do we seriously want one of them to get top 4 over us and watch that club elevate into unprecedent heights, only because we won a poxy trophy?

Our own recent history tells us get Champions League (or even Europa) and then we face a relegation battle the next year. Don't take it that just because we get there we stay there. The RS, Arsenal, Spurs and even Utd and Chelsea will still look to improve.

What your saying is would we take multiple CL qualifications over the next 4-8 years and that is a different question all together.
