Forest fan in peace... Is there an argument that relegation might be a good thing for Everton?

There are a few teams who have been down in the Championship and have bounced back to a position of strength, I think Villa spent a couple of seasons down there and they've rebuilt. Even if you didn't bounce back immediately, you're bound to be challenging for the top 6 and you'd think you could get promoted in 2/3 seasons. Winning games, good away days, no VAR and reconnecting with the fans in a new era with a new stadium might work in the Championship... Thoughts??

Nope, this club can’t afford to go down. Literally.

No it certainly shouldn’t be in any clubs plans to go down, in order to re-set, but if it happens it happens. We certainly need something that acts as a catalyst to drive the ownership out but relegation is not the answer.

Relegation currently would likely see us go into administration which is an absolutely no no.

There`s a good few teams that have gone down and not bounced back up and just slowly continued sinking. With our money problems the last thing we need is to drop out of the PL and lose all the cash that being in it brings. We`d be seen as a very big fish in the championship and every game teams would be up for getting one over on us and as we saw yesterday our lot might look good when we are in control of things but at the slightest sign of the opposition getting on top we can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I didn't take in to account the extent of your financial situation tbh. By the sounds of things, it would more than likely be a case of spending years out of the PL, as opposed to bouncing straight back

That's why I didn't refer to us (Forest) as an example. We're not a great example of bouncing straight back, but Villa, maybe even Bournemouth are teams that have had spells in the Championship and are now better equipped in the PL.
You gotta get back up in the first or second season, otherwise your key players move and the gap between you and the teams that hover around the top of the championship closes rapidly. Then if you get in a habit of going up then coming down, like Norwich, you really fall off the pace, and get stuck in the championship as the gap between the EFL and PL grows wider.

You've just compared Everton to Bournemouth.

Our conversation is done.
Have a nice day.

In terms of longstanding history, Bournemouth and Everton aren't even in the same league. Bournemouth are just an example of a club that seem to be managed efficiently both on and off the pitch and have survived relegation to bounce back stronger. Bournemouth are likely to finish higher than Everton and Forest this season. I know they get criticised a lot for being a small club, but they're an annoyingly difficult club to beat and seem to have cemented themselves into that 12th/13th position.

Bournemouth isn't comparable given the respective histories.

Villa is a reasonable example as go back ten years they were staying up through skin of their teeth signing bargain basement players with awful managers (Lambert) and had an absent owner who couldn't sell. Had a 17 point prem season and then spent three years in the championship. Sunderland went down in 2017 and still haven't returned and spend four years in league one instead.

The best case is a Newcastle. Go down, come back up winning the league with 100 points and then there is at least a winning feel running through the club again.

The most embarrassing thing would be opening BMD with a game v Rotherham or whoever in the championship but perhaps that's what this club deserves for being mismanaged in the last 8 years.

Forest are a good example of when a team that was a the top end of the league for a good spell through the 80`s, then dropped down, came back up, went down after a few seasons and then took around 20 years to get back up, only to be hanging on to try to stay in the PL since their return. Don`t think we can afford 20 years out of the top flight.

If we go down we are still broke, just more broke and we'll get massive pts deductions.

you'll see in our future doc: Everton: All or Nothing
