People forget that football clubs aren’t just supported on social media sometimes. What’s said online and what actually occurs at games are two very different things.
Social media sites like Facebook and, particularly, Twitter are utterly toxic. There's a term that gets used to describe the false reality that pervades around social media, it's called "hyper reality". Everything is amplified by 1,000,000% on social media and small issues become utterly overblown.

I'd ban it all if I had the power. When you weigh up the positives and negatives of social media and balance it out there just aren't enough positives and a whole host of negatives. Life was better before social media, it genuinely was, and I would happily see the back of it. Don't even get me started on "adult websites"

You sound like you are exaggerating the effects of hyper reality.

Seeing a lot of positive noise from fan groups

May even make a believer out of me that we can fight and stay up with their enthusiasm.

Yes, then...when we'd played 8 games and we were 8th in the league and accumulated half of the points we have right now.

See - utterly 'kin barmy move to desert the team to get the manager out.
You can't blame the fans for a terrible appointment. The board need to own this monumental cock up. Did it not occur to them that the first sign of trouble would cause a riot? Rafael's tactics were to counter attack and hope Gray or Townsend do something. Same as Ancelotti really but we got found out.

It was all years in the making. Sacking managers, buying square peg players to fit in round holes because next new manager fancies them. Fans are reactionary they don't have the power to make decisions.

I was prepared to support the appointment but thought it was the wrong one from the start. That Watford game was an “oh s**t” moment for many supporters and the paucity of the football following it was on Benitez…Wolves,Brentford,Liverpool,Palace and Brighton were awful performances and not helped by his refusal to adapt or make changes. The lack of subs at Brentford was ridiculous for example.
However, I think he/we were unlucky that the games against Leicester,Burnley and Newcastle did not get played on the original dates as they were all in bad form or had an injury crisis.
The performance in Cup games against Huddersfield,QPR and Hull were very poor and no Manager could survive his run of form from October onwards culminating in that Norwich defeat.

Indeed. The algorithms intentionally make users angry.
It's not just a waste of time but it's thoroughly unhealthy.
I honestly can't imagine the mental health of someone who has used Twitter over the last 2 years.

I've been off social media for the best part of a decade. When you have teenage daughters you see first hand how utterly sinister it all is and what is allowed to fly online. Facebook did it's own internal enquiry that found it causes genuine harm to young girls. More than half of all girls had negative feelings about their bodies due to social media and almost a 3rd had contemplated suicide.

If social media is a social experiment then it is an abject failure and needs to be thrown in the trash before it does more harm.

This is true, the anger makes them engage, more engagement, more traffic, more income, vicious circle.
Twitter is the worst, they allow it because they don't want to take responsibility for it, they don't want a publishing platform were they are responsible for content.
I hate it

See the Benitez apologists, are still blaming the fans for the fact that he was the one, who finally pulled the plug out of the sinking ship that is Everton FC.
Benetiz set the rot in early, it then started to fall apart in November December and January, no matter what anyone says he’s played a major part in where we are now. Board should of sorted out the mess when transfer window opened and got rid of the idiot so we could at least let new manager have plenty of time to bring in new blood that we desperately needed, not a few days that were left

Farming hate clicks like the Daily Mail. Just ban it all, be done with it. Get people engaging in real life again and get kids outside kicking footballs and riding bikes instead of watching hard-core filth on Only Fans.

I don't tweet and I only occasionally check FB - I limit myself to Classic Car, Shamrock Rovers and Everton groups. I ignore 99% of requests to be a friend to someone about whom I know nothing

I don’t think Everton deserves their fans. That there’s still full houses home and away is one thing, that so many are still so invested in doing everything they can to help generate a response out of players that should be mandatory is beyond what the club deserves. Add to that a 27 year gluttony of poor decisions, mismanagement and continual inability to raise the club to the standard we once expected is firmly on the club.

My only distant hope is that this latest brush with failure and humiliation is the final straw on those holding senior positions being allowed to make a ridiculously good living on continual failure.

You’ll get honesty from Evertonians, should players, managers or senior leadership not use that as a attribute or even see it as a threat, then they need to be nowhere near Everton.
