To get to their "better" we had to see a manager unseated.

Let's not be all coy about this: there were huge numbers of supporters who wanted this club beaten each week in order that Benitez lost his job. That had an effect on the whole organisation. We lost a lot of games because there was no cohesion in the club between fans manager and players. That's a funny way of wanting better.

It was an indulgence that's led us directly to this point where we've left it too late and we're dancing on the trap door with 3 other clubs and hoping the other three fall through it before we do.

That vocal and physical opposition to Benitez has done us untold damage. It might just have cost us our PL place.

Blame the owner for bringing him in when this scenario was always going to happen.

Precisely. There was no shortage of warning. Where I do disagree with @davek is on a slight nuance.. I don't think that there were many people hoping Everton got beat so Benitez got sacked, but there were people who didn't want him, maybe never got fully behind him, and were not at all surprised when Everton got beat.

Myself, I wanted him to win every game, and have messages to my RS cousin from the day he was appointed where I said I hoped he was given an extension, because if he did it means he has done well. However, imo we waited 6 weeks to long to get shut as it was all too clear that his style was never going to fit and this was too big a job for him. He was only here as he wanted to live closer to home and he was never going to get the LFC job again, nor will Tranmere pay enough.

Once he was here fans needed to be disciplined and accept his presence. Many weren't, though, and they acted like a rabble determined to be proven right - at the expense of this club as it's turned out.

We look like falling into the abyss and that ^^^^ is a big dimension of this....but well done them for "getting the FSW out"....at least they'll have that to comfort them as the rest of us rummage among the debris of Everton's top flight status.
He was backed for the first few games, the fans only started to fully turn when we went on our worst run of results in our entire history.

Besides, none of that really matters anyway, anyone with any common sense should have known it was going to happen which is why he should never have been appointed in the first place.

There is one person to blame, it's not the fans, it's not even Benitez, it's Moshiri (or Usmanov or whoever makes that decision).

Exactly. There was no basis for attacking Benitez straight off as results went our way...then as we began the horrendous form he was turned on...exactly at the time the team and manager needed support.

It's utter nonsense to suggest that the ill-feeling toward Benitez didn't contribute to 'the worst run of results in our entire history'...and everyone knows it.

As said: we are where we are because of the toxic attitude to Benitez. That's not in any doubt whatsoever. Some others put their own petty minded vendetta and need to be proven right above the good of the club. There's absolutley no question about that and anyone avoiding that assessment have a bad conscience about it...or SHOULD have.

As said earlier: me? Clear conscience...and I'm not the only one.

No, it wasn't "always going to happen" that was MADE TO happen by a swathe of supporters who thought they could put themselves forward as the 'real voice' of Evertonians and speak for us all. Well they didn't speak for me and a whole lot of other people.

They have to ponder what they did to contribiute to where we are now.

Embarrassing post. Is it the fans fault he sold Digne as well?

Masses of supporters felt that way. You only had to be on this forum after a defeat to feel the huge surge of "I told you so". They were practically punching the 'kin air when we got beat as they knew their objective of "gettin' der fat spanush wayter out, lad" was hurtling closer to reality for them.

Let's not re-write history here. There were Evertonians actively wanting an Everton defeat. Anyone who doesn't believe that are completely naive or covering tracks.

You talking about yourself here Dave

Because YOU’RE the only one who has wanted Everton to get beat.

I mean, it’s right here

Well yes, evidently it was always going to happen, because it erm... happened?

You crack on backing Moshiri up though.

In proportion to the total fan base, was there really?
It was a revolt. We're not talking about one or two here are we?

There's no gettting away from this I'm afraid: there are supporters of the club who just wanted Benitez out that much they didn't give a flying one about wins or draws for Everton...their objective was to get Benitez out. That was their cup final and they won it.

Well done. Congratulations.

lol

...apart from my implacable opposition to Moshiri for the last 5 years what makes you think I support him?

Ludicrous post.
