I agree. I think that's exactly what happened. It looks like the board want to get back to the Moyes days rather than the rollercoaster we were on with Martinez which while ultimately a bit of a disaster he did get us 5th, a record points total, a European QF and two semi-finals all in 3 years. That's almost as good as Moyes did in over a decade.

I just think it's a shame we lost our nerve when in my view the right man for the job was available and was dying to come. It will be very interesting what FDB does at Inter.

dont agree fdb was a better option than koeman, all he won was the dutch league same as koeman, but koeman had already done a really good job at the saints especially with all the players they had to sell

Time will tell I guess

Why are people panicking we haven't signed the players they want yet? There's still weeks left of the transfer window and historically the 'bigger' signings tend to happen close to the deadline.

So far we've signed 3 players who are most probably going to be regular starters this season (I'm including stekelenburg in this on the assumption we don't sign another keeper)... When was the last time we did that before the season kicked off?

So nothing will be the same.

When nothing has actually changed.

Yet.

I think it is bad business to overhaul a squad during the season. They have known the positions they have wanted to upgrade but dragged their feet on prospects and we are now going into the season with a subpar squad. United, Leicester, RS, City, West Ham, even Bournemouth got their signings done early so they can go into a season with the core of their squad.
Now everyone knows there will be a signing or maybe two that happen near the deadline, but we are planning to revamp a major part of our squad during that time. I cannot be the only one that thinks that type of uncertainty has to be bad for the team.
Overall i just think EFC has shown to be run poorly.

I agree that it's not ideal to get major deals done during the season, but don't you think we tried to get our targets early? I'm sure we made moves and enquiries for a number of targets as soon as we could, but what can we do if they don't want to come/keep their options open? Players know they'll have more clubs coming in for them as the deadline gets closer as more clubs lose their players so will have wider and potentially better options. The summer transfer window should be closed before season start imo, but there's not a lot we can do about it. The majority of clubs will do most of their strengthening after the season has started
