Unfortunately don't have the time to discuss this and your point yesterday more fully, but on the above can I make 2 points:

Firstly the strategy was to go big early on and bring in several marquee signings. This was not dependent upon Stones being sold first. Several factors held up business, the Euros, player holidays but ultimately none of the marquee signings would commit to us for reasons I expressed yesterday.

Secondly City perhaps holding a similar view to your's tried to acquire Stones relatively cheaply in the belief that if our activity was dependent on his sale we'd sell sooner rather than later. We held our ground and City completed as late as they could before the A list cut off date at almost our asking price.

Time now though to put all that aside at least until tomorrow

If Moshiri is a ruthless as his reputation then surely he would be looking internally to ensure lessons have been learnt over the summer.

It,s been amertuer night all summer and IMHO a massive opportunity has been missed to be ready for the start of the season.

Best squad since the 80s means its not as good as the 80s squad David.
It's not close to the best squad of the 80s. It was in Martinez first season when Pienaar, Howard, Osman, Distin and Hibbert were all still better than what we have currently in those positions and Barry, Baines and Jags were 3 years younger.

Now it's a pretty awful squad with two really good players. One that is about to get sold.

Bill has a sulk after Farhad had a look at his latest business proposal.

BK if you just give me the Stones money I promise I will give it back ten fold with the profits from my latest production

FM this is for Coronation Street the musical, performed in mime, in darkness, with a run time of 16 hours??

BK yes Farhad, it's going to be fantastic, I've got a great director to manage it, he's one of the best in the world, he's Spanish...

FM (interrupts Bill mid flow) nah I'll think I'll give it a miss.

BK but Farhad...

FM (again interrupts) I've been going through the books and I found an IOU for 10 million from August 2011, how about you pay that back first Bill.

I don't think it's the worst transfer dealings but I do worry about paying a lot for these players who have little sell on value.

we don't need money, we don't need to worry about sell on value. Worrying about that aspect is accepting that your club should be used as a stepping stone. We have a vast amount of talented youngsters coming through if that aspect needs to be worried about anyway tbh. We need players in their prime years in our squad.

ATM, no answer is completely satisfactory to the current situation. Moshiri is soaked in PL football so he must know that the top targets have pride as well as preternatural greed. For some of those targets, signing for us would be a public admission that their career was going downhill.

So was he naive in believing he could get these people? Running a reckless transfer strategy by thinking, "It's worth a shot" then scrabbling around for B List targets at the last minute? Or just doing the usual Everton PR bit?

I'm happy to wait and see till the window is closed and there's firmer news on the stadium before rushing to judgment but I'm a little uneasy - no more than that.

They're not even asking the right questions.
Of course not, they're the Echo. It's their job to be utterly wrong all the time.

That said, what they're doing in a general sense is flagging up growing consternation that the direction of the club is uncharted and unspoken.
