The moves we're making off the field will allow us to bridge that gap on the field.

We've brought in a very highly rated manager and DOF, who are both proving their worth in exactly the way Moshiri had planned. Moshiri has also been incredibly smart by getting on the right side of the three most powerful people in football: Mendes, Raiola and Jim White.

Do you think so far you are seeing anything of this? I personally don't. That's all I am saying.

“We want to be competitive, we want to win” - Moshiri sets out Everton vision

Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri says he is determined to establish the club among English football’s elite as quickly as possible.

Moshiri also revealed how his early meetings with Bill Kenwright convinced him to join the club and his optimism for the future.

Moshiri was speaking at the Everton’s AGM, the first since he purchased a majority shareholding in the club last March.

During an eventful meeting Everton confirmed progress was being made on a new stadium, fresh investment had been secured and a season ticket price freeze.

It was Moshiri’s comments that got Evertonians most excited though, with the Iranian-born businessman showing the kind of ambition and vision the club have lacked since Sir John Moores in the 1960s and 1970s.

Practicality or preference? The big question facing Everton’s new stadium
No confirmation at AGM for new stadium location

Speaking to the gathered shareholders at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Moshiri said:

“The day I went to Bill’s office was a very special day. I had a look at a number of clubs. I wanted to be involved in a club. The reason I got into Arsenal is my business partner is a crazy Arsenal fan. Bill’s office had a real impression on me, This is a man totally obsessed with what he is doing. His enthusiasm for Everton is infectious. ‘Bill look at the debts!’ Bill responds ‘No, these are assets’ His heart was Everton.

“We became friends and he met my family, and after a while there was no other option for me - it was Everton. I really enjoyed Everton.

“It has far exceeded my expectations and everything about it - the train journeys and meeting the fans. They are really special fans. They keep on buying beer for me! I don't drink beer. But they are very, very special."

“It is not enough to say 'we are special'. We don’t want to be a museum. We need to be competitive and we need to win. The gold standard is the Premier League. The league is where our competitive edge will be measured.

“We have a window to establish ourselves and we will do everything we can. Bill over the last 20 years, through his sheer dedication, has kept the Club close to the elite.

“Now we need to look at sustainability to be amongst the elite. It takes time, but we are committed. That is why we are here.”

Bill Kenwright was typically gushing in his praise for Moshiri and the working relationship they have struck up over the past 18 months.

Kenwright also had a message for manager Ronald Koeman and director of football Steve Walsh - to end Everton’s 21-year wait for a trophy:

“It was a long, long search in which many, many people came forward. 18 months ago, maybe longer, Farhad came to see me. I felt, instantly. This was a man who could get us out of the problem times where we had to plead at the bank every week. His love of football, not just Everton, was astonishing. He knew more about football than anyone I’ve ever met.

“Last year, for me, hasn’t been easy but if I hadn’t had Farhad it would have been much more difficult. He wants to sign more players than you or I do. ‘We’ll get him, we’ll get him, we’ll get him”

“We’ve got to bring some silverware. I’m sure Farhad, Ronald and Steve...that’s what we’re going for. This is a very special moment, I believe. We want that FA Cup, Ronald. We really do.”

what bit dont you feel like you're seeing mate ? did you think after almost two transfer windows we'd be sorted ?

Every season there's a high spending team which slips up. If we're consistent and play like we have been since December, we can finish above a couple of them.

Not necessarily this season of course, but we're doing everything the right way.

What you have to remember is that we can't just force players to join. I think the funds are available (especially as Moshiri himself confirmed we were bidding huge sums for Koulibaly), but it's being able to use the funds for players who can justify those fees. We have the funds but not the bottomless pit of Man City etc, and so we need to be smart with every transfe

Our issue is attracting those players and considering how poor we've been in the past two seasons, it's not something that happens overnight.

If we finish top 7 this season and get into Europe, we'll be a completely different proposition for players.

We'll be great again mate, I'm sure. :D

You feel "we are establishing ourselves" "amongst the game's elite" in the market mate?

the way i have always seen the changes at the minute, is asking for anything different too much right now? I get we all want instant success but for such a small turnover financially, next to no brand exposure, no european football, in a league dominated by money teams and the fact we had a strict wage budget which dictated to a certain extent what players we signed, what do some fans expect?

I still remember the days when our transfer business was a loan on deadline day and the tv money was paying off a loan from the year before. So paying 22 million for a winger might be a bit too much but at least we are spending it and getting us all a little excited about things. Going the game now we are talking about good things again with my mates, haven't spoke like that openly since we signed johnson and jags and the rest during those couple of years.

So maybe we should appreciate that things aren't miserable anymore and not moan at the thought of not spending loads of money straight away? Especially when we overpaid for Bolasie and under paid for Gueye.

Moshiri's investment into Everton is coming in the form of sponsoring Finch Farm so that we have an additional seven million pound or so each year, and he may well provide some funding for the new stadium, but there isn't going to be any investment through cash injections in order to invest in the playing squad and rack up the permitted losses of 100 million pound over a three year period. The investment seen in the playing squad by Moshiri thus far has all been with club revenues and could have been completed under the previous administration of Kenwright and Co.

Not at all mate. I'm more concerned about the present though which I don't see as fulfilling his comments.
Well to be fair to him mate, I didn't read anything in whatever FM said at the agm that implied that he was gonna make us title contenders within just 2 windows.

I mean like quite a few others have said as well, this will be something that requires a bit of time. And more than a bit of patience from some some of our fans.

The above is not a dig at u btw. I'm sure u have your heart in the right place concerning all things Everton.

Not really, since Moshiri initially loaned the club £80m, interest free, to clear the bank loans which the club's revenue was being used to pay off.

The USM deal and interest free loan have bought him some time, but let's be honest with ourselves - unless a transfer miracle happens over the next few days, his first two windows at Goodison have been, at best and being generous, underwhelming.

I can sort of excuse it given our season was dead in December anyway, so there's little point overpaying for players in January when it would make no real difference, but he really has to hit the summer transfer window running IMO.

He is rebuilding the club in the right manner and tbh arrived in the nick of time. Money is being spent and plans are being made. Once the announcement regarding the ground is made we will be on the journey proper......

Bold bit I have to take issue with. We simply haven't spent "money" as in what you'd call invested money - we've spent less than the TV money thus far in transfers over two windows. In short, Moshiri hasn't done anything Kenwright couldn't have done yet, except get the USM deal for Finch Farm and be able to loan us some money.

So he's basically Vibrac without the interest at the moment, that's it.

He had to do that, and it effectively forms part of his purchase cost of the club. You don't get to gain control of Everton for 90 million pound when Aston Villa is getting sold for just under 70 million in the Championship. It does relieve us of the interest payments burden, but I believe it won't effect FFP because it's not investment in the first team.

Had he not arrived, Roberto would still be manager and we'd be below Leicester......
