It's not just Bill spouting crap though; Moshiri isn't immune to criticism. His comments to the AGM and Jim White haven't been borne out by actions.
True. He's a bit more circumspect than Bill but the "James is family" bit was beyond cringeworthy plus all the chat about Koulibaly seems like wham now as well.

No they didn't...

Must admit the cultish comments here are making me laugh; please keep on defending your messiah-for-some-reason-despite-no-reason-to-be-one-yet.

What did you want , sign a load of mercenaries on top dollar, surely we don't want the likes Memphas (Big Time Charlie Potato) Depay at Everton.

Maybe the board and Koeman have recognised with the youth players coming through that they don't need to throw money all over the place.

Lets see where we finish in the league and compare that position to last year, in Koemans first season by the way.

Ah, the "we'll go with what we've got" defence. A true classic.

Ok, tell me how we could spend almost 200 million pounds? The accounts released for last season show over 20 million of loss, so where does that money come from?

I'm assuming that this means you expect Moshiri to dole us out 200 million quid for transfers out of his own pocket?

He doesn't own all of the club yet and has to buy those shares still. He'd be inflating the value of the shares he doesn't yet own with his own money. I'm thankful that with the situation as it is that he has seen fit to give us 80 million quid on an interest free loan.

Again I have to ask why people were expecting us to "make more of a splash in the transfer market". I think things would be different if Moshiri had complete control and over 50%.

At this point now, with the January window, we have definitely spent more than the Stones money.

What statements from Bill have raised expectations beyond what was seemingly planned?
I think you have missed my point. I didn't mean WE could spend £200m from club coffers I meant that we would be compliant with ffp if we did spend that amount.

Secondly, we have spent more than the Stones money but, as of today, we haven't spent more than the Stones money plus the increase in TV money. That could change in either direction based on transfers in or transfers out.

The statements from Bill were the one's about things never being the same again, the one's about Moshiri wanting more signings than Bill and so on and so on. Bill likes to be over the top, he's a theatre guy after all, we shouldn't be taken in by it after a decade or more of it but when it comes to Everton most of us (most certainly including myself) allow hope to trump reason.

To answer your final question, most of us thought we would make more of the window because of the talk of Koulibaly, Witsel and Mata in the summer followed by confirmation from Moshiri on the Jim White show that we were in for these players at huge money in the summer combined with the opportunity to raise our wage bill because of the Stones sale. Maybe that was unrealistic, I don't know, we'll find out soon.

Go with what we've got after signing Gueye/Williams/Morgs/Bolasie and Lookman

Exactly, we have spent about £40-45 million net and could still bring in another signing before the windows end.

People expecting big money will be the same clowns moaning if we couldn't finance a new stadium. Fact is only us and Spurs in recent times have had to pay for a new ground out of our own pockets, Arsenal benefitted from the ground around Highbury and both City and West Ham have had stadiums gifted to them.

Right now we have the perfect balance of spending a sufficient level of money on signings (both first team and under 23) whilst being able to finance a stadium move.

Now if we don't spend much in the summer window I'll be the first to moan but as of this window Moshiri has so far backed Koeman.

You do know that you are going to have Martinez's first season 5th place finish with a club record 72 pts thrown at you, thought I would get it in before davek has a pop at you.

OK yes we're not being held back from spending 200 million quid because of compliance, but the point is the only place 200 million quid would come from is out of Moshiri's pocket.

We have spent more than the Stones money plus the increase in TV money. If we didn't then why did Moshiri have to give us an 80 million quid injection? The money has been spent on signing players and wages, plus the compo fees for Martinez and Koeman. Not to mention that we haven't received all of the TV money yet as we have an outstanding share of the 25% merit payments to be paid out to us.

"The statements from Bill were the one's about things never being the same again, the one's about Moshiri wanting more signings than Bill and so on and so on."

This is all vague. There's nothing specific in anything they've said to influence my expectations. The only people those with high expectations that haven't been met yet have to blame for that is themselves. Nobody's come out and said we're going to be marching up the table and spending cash like its going out of style. They've referred to it as a project and it is going to take time. People have let themselves get their expectations out of hand there has been so very little from the club, Moshiri, or Kenwright to give them these expectations.

My only expectation is that we perform and compete better than before. Anyone holding Moshiri up as a saviour is counting their chickens.

You've got a point about Moshiri speaking out about Koulibaly, but that is the only thing I think anyone can reasonably point to as a reason for inflated expectations.

I think so many of the people who are disappointed right now have read into things that weren't said by anyone.
