I think anyone expecting Gilvary's arrival on the board if true to equate with Elstone's departure is very likely to be disappointed.

In his own right Gilvary or someone of similar ilk can bring further expertise and contacts.

In particular people of his calibre do not associate themselves with failure and non-delivery, so be it with the stadium or success of the team generally, having someone else who is used to getting things done is great for the club.

We need more people at board level who can challenge accepted ways of thinking and ask questions of those tasked with the commercial and business management of the club. I would imagine that Gilvary won't just sit and nod at board meetings, and if this gives the executive team another jolt, then great.

We could do with the appointment of a commercial director too, hopefully, and pardon the oil pun, this is in the pipeline.

Surely people who end up at places like BP are just rich blaggers? The product kind of works all by itself if you ask me, doesn't require massive marketing, decisions at board level must just be which oil field to plunder next and what biscuits to have at the next meeting. Hardly innovative to attract the really great minds.

So is this bloke going to be just be a safe pair of hands? Or knowing our luck we will get the person responsible for all the decisions that lead to the deepwater horizon disaster. He'll decide to frack the ground beneath the dock to raise income first but will just cause all the northern docks to sink into the Mersey.

Everton that. :p
The oil industry is all about who you know, hopefully this fella knows people who piss petroleum

Indeed, it seems more useful in a networking type way. The two names that are banded around seem to be people who are very good financially but that's what we have the mosh for surely.

If they bring wads of cash with them though i won't complain. :)

This is it entirely. The esk has rightly said ourselves and Liverpool have comparatively weak boards and we need to strengthen ours. Isn't Gilroy an Evertonian?

Google doesn't give much away on that front

He was born in Liverpool in 1962, his dad worked on the docks, his mum worked at the Jacobs factory, they lived in a council house, he likes watching football and rugby, and is a keen triathlete

Could be a red or a blue from that, you'd like to hope he's a blue
