Dave mate, come on, Ancelotti will have us is a sustained, much healthier position than Martinez did. He had 18 decent months, and fizzled out.

If he was great he wouldn’t have fizzled out. Key word being sustained obviously.
The last time I was excited to see an Everton team take to the pitch was under Martinez. I respect Ancelotti and he's clearly a better manager than RM. But I find how we play under him a bit dull.

Thanks to Lukaku, what about the 2 seasons after - abysmal.

What has all that lot to do with Moshiri?
No. First 18 months very good; last 18 months it was a calamity. The job became too big for him with the players he had. But dont forget that the 3rd season we had 2 great cup runs.

In no lifetime, whether this one or the next would Martinez ever do anything remotely close to Ancelotti as a manager.

EVER.
Well his record in that first season Ancelotti wont get near. In any case, I already happily conceded CA is a vastly better manager than RM.

I still think he’d have won that cup if the fans had been behind him the day we played United in the semi.

They never, it was a horrible atmosphere leading up to it and on the day of the game which it in turn rubbed off on the players. They were terrified and it wasn’t until the second half that we even started playing and we still should have won.

That was a huge opportunity missed and I always believe or fan bases negativity killed us that day.

If Ancelotti had taken over with the squad Moyes left he'd have had us finishing in the top 4 no issues at all.
He'd have looked at Moyes' players in training, looking like they had a hand grenade at their feet that they had to get shut of, and he'd have left on the next flight.

You could see that on here in the days leading up to it. Plotters willing their own team to get beat in a cup SF with Watford or Palace waiting for us.

Insane. That's what it was like back then. And Moshiri must have picked up on it and knew he had an easy decision to make soon after the cup loss.

We were a better team than United. ET had one winner - us.

He should have been sacked as soon as he humiliated this club in that derby debacle the previous Wednesday. He should have been summarily dismissed on his way back through Stanley Park and told to thumb a lift home. The inability of Kenwright and Moshiri to definitively state that losing 4-0 at Anfield is a sackable offence - especially on top of the previous 18 months - was an inexcusable abrogation of duty.

A caretaker manager, such as Duncan Ferguson, would have made all the difference at Wembley. Instead, we went into battle with a man who was already dead on his ideological shield. Farcical. I liked Roberto - and that first season was beautiful in so many ways - but by the following December when he lost pathetically at Southampton he was toast. In truth, the writing was on the wall as soon as he signed Aiden McGeady. Then it was only a matter of time before this guy would be comprehensively found out. But the way he was left to dangle by Moshiri and the sentimental types was cruel. He should have been put out of his misery long before.

The myth of the squad Moyes left us. This continues to get bandied about. It had served us well, no question, but in a "nearly there" kind of way. Its not like it was an all conquering team of champions. Also, it was overdue an expensive rebuild and a good proportion of the squad had retired or as good as within 3 years of him leaving. Most of the rest had barely played for the team, if at all. And with little or no money, anyone of any real value would need to be sold to help the inevitable rebuild. That's the just the way it was.

The squad we had was nowhere near as deep as some would have you believe, and most managers would've gone nowhere near it, especially with the promise of zero funds to rebuild without selling. Which is precisely why Moyes walked and precisely why we went for Martinez.

What he got out of the squad the following season with an under spend is nothing short of miraculous, and he deserves far more credit than he has ever been afforded by a largely ungrateful and deluded fan base.

Added to that, we also had Tomas Hitzlesperger and Phil Neville who retired that summer and Jan Much who left on a free at the end of his short term contract. THAT is the squad Moyes left us with.

So forget asking if Martinez is better than Ancelotti. He's not, never has been.

Instead, ask yourself if Ancelotti wouldve even looked twice at us in 2013 and be grateful that through a strange turn of events, we have ended up with him now.

But people really do need to cut Martinez some slack. He had his flaws, but he was nowhere near as bad as he has been made out to be in the memories of some.

Mate that first season was pretty good, we were unlucky to not get 4th but 5th was fair enough and the footy was great but the following two were absolutely terrible as well. He gets a lot of praise off many for that season but as a whole his tenure was shocking.
