…..I have a theory, an unlikely theory but here goes;

There was a power base at Board level that Moshiri could not shift from top down - Kenwright, DBB & Brands. Moshiri wanted somebody in who could change things from bottom up. He wasn’t after stability on the pitch (as I thought), he was after instability off it.

He needed a deceitful and confrontational manager who would work to his agenda & clear out the ones he didn’t want. He acquired Benitez and asked him to set about that task.

It’s a clever theory but I doubt Moshiri is a clever strategist. It’s probably just that Benitez is horrible.
I think it could be about Moshiri shoring up his own power base, yes.

He has had enough of Directors of Football preventing him from recruiting players that he, Moshiri has personally scouted, or who are represented by agents that he is close to and wants to bring in.

He is fed up of some employee (the DoF) questioning which manager he wants to install.

He wants to be completely free to play Football Manager basically.

But Moshiri appointed all 3 to the board and could remove them if he wanted.

Looks like he has been brought in to clear out everyone not in favour either directly or by indirectly making their jobs untenable.

In addition i think hes been told to dismantle the squad and replace with younger higher quality because Moshiri has lost so much cash.

I think we'll see alot of changes over the next 2 years and then Moshiri throws more money in to back Benitez.

How the hell is Benitez going to be here in 2 years - be serious

I mean...I appreciate the viewpoint but that makes no sense. He has brought in the DoF's both times. He's made purchases without their input. End of day this is his club no matter how useless he is at the football side of things.

He probably had good intentions with both initially. But then in both cases decided he was better placed to make purchases without their input as you say. ‘Preventing’ in the sense that they probably expressed their opinions on who should be signed which he did not appreciate. he is the owner he does what he wants as you also acknowledge.

Logically the next step is actually to get rid of the DoF entirely which is what he’s done.

A lot of it is probably his own psychological mindset and desire for total control as much as anything that’s gone on. In his head he might view the DoF as someone who gets in his way.

so...basically he's a loon. Got it.

The Fortress Sports Fund finally came to fruition....

I suspect , that there was and is a lot more to this “investment” than they will ever let on and it certainly isn’t to the benefit of the club itself .

Depends on the trifecta:

1: If we can sneak up to around 10th.

2: If Benitez moves out 5/6 this window

3: If replacements are high potential u23s

I could see Moshiri keeping him into next summer while Benitez continues his 'overhaul'.

If Gray, Mykolenko and Patterson are all Benitez' doing then I think Moshiri looks at that upside and gives him time.

Certainly think he'd best be moved into a DOF position as the profile of these 2 full back signings is exactly what I want.
