…..I have a theory, an unlikely theory but here goes;

There was a power base at Board level that Moshiri could not shift from top down - Kenwright, DBB & Brands. Moshiri wanted somebody in who could change things from bottom up. He wasn’t after stability on the pitch (as I thought), he was after instability off it.

He needed a deceitful and confrontational manager who would work to his agenda & clear out the ones he didn’t want. He acquired Benitez and asked him to set about that task.

It’s a clever theory but I doubt Moshiri is a clever strategist. It’s probably just that Benitez is horrible.
Fun theory Eggs but it begs the question of why as the majority shareholder he wouldn't be able to remove DBB , Brands and Kenwright. Legally relatively simple.

Oh it would cost money but a hell of a lot less than employing this clown Benitez and risking the whole investment when / if he takes us down .....and that is inevitable if he remains in charge throughout this / next season.

My worry is moshiri is too stubborn and too over his head to sack Rafael, also we probably will find it difficult to attract managers. The state of the club and the team, it's not an easy job.

No news on investment for the new stadium, I'm starting to get concerned by the whole thing
lol...the whole stadium distraction will be an 'Everton that'. I'm not saying development of those docks won't go ahead...money is money. But Everton is just a tokenism to access the real estate

He's already ditched Brands of course along with the head of medical and some of the scouting/recruitment team.

Moshiri is probably looking at the guys leaving in the summer e.g Sigurdsson, Tosun and Delph and seeing £70mil+ of transfer fees paid disappear into thin air...not to mention the huge wages.

To go with @Eggs theory;

Benitez comes in and ruffles the squads feathers e.g James (gone), Digne (going) and orchestrates a high turnover of players. This would mean almost totally recycling a squad over a 3 year period.

Thats when Moshiri comes in with another large tranche of funds to spend on players as the stadium is about to open.

Aside from the player side, Benitez will be nit picking at everything from the scouting, youth development all the way through to the contract renewals.

There should be massive upward pressure from Benitez on DBB/Kenwright etc to get things more efficiently done to help and not hinder him on the playing side.

I would suggest Benitez will have asked for time to overhaul everything he can with the caveat of:

10-12th place this season
8-10th next season
5th-7th third season

If thats whats been pitched to Moshiri along with a more streamlined efficient running of the football side then it makes sense...especially seeing the FFP issues and focusing on increasing squad value and performance over that period.

If thats what happens then the big tranche comes in at the end of the third season everyone is happy.

None of that is going to happen, principally because Benitez will relegate us in advance of the eventual outcome in the implausible scenario he is allowed to continue

Never know...if Benitez makes the signings this window and we somehow sneak to 12th.

Why would Moshiri move him out?

Then add the factor of positive recruitment on the balance sheet.

I can see a situation where @Eggs theory isnt too far off the mark.

I think - and I can’t speak for Eggs - that he may be saying he is interested in wiping the slate clean so that he, Moshiri can interfere and impose his will even more on player purchases and day to day running of the club, not to encourage proper accountability and structure

Anyway not a hope Benitez gets us any higher than 15th/16th - if he is allowed to stay

So the latest thing helping us sleep at night is the theory that Benitez torching the club is by design? Like a controlled burn?

That's all very well - except the mastermind behind the plan hasn't shown he has a single clue about running a football club to this point, and the guy with the flame has won one in twelve.

This is not a masterplan. At best it's yet another throw-it-at-the-wall-and-see-if-it-sticks flounder that could do enormous damage to the club.
