Reports him and Benitez are clashing over bringing in Coutinho. Benitez not keen on him apparently.

Toshun?

Alladyce had scouted him at a previous club. Not saying Moshiri never wanted him as well but its not like he was just willy nilly signing players over the manager/DOF like the rumours go.

Alladyce didn't even know which club Tosun came from, don't think he even knew he was Turkish.

He said himself he "spotted" Tosun.

Niasse (which makes sense as Martinez barely played him and was gone soon after) and Iwobi are they other rumoured ones.

Nothing would surprise me these days.

Niasse signed before Moshiri even rocked up here man lol

Why you shouldn't take EFC social media rumours as gospel.

They turned up at pretty much the same time, Niasse was signed whilst the takeover was happening.

It always struck me as odd that Martinez would sign a footballer who had very little ability on the ball for decent money whilst his job was on the line and then barely played him.

Who said anything about taking it as gospel? It just wouldn't shock me as I think the bloke is an idiot. I also didn't believe the rumours about him appointing a past it divisive manager but here we are.

TBF at that point in his tenure Martinez was making a lot of senseless decisions and had been for some time. His tactics seemed to be mainly aimed at trying to prove he was right and everyone else - fans, the squad, pundits, the direction in which football generally was going - was wrong.

Yes, buying Niasse made no sense but then so did buying Kone, or Alcaraz for that matter.

Both Kone and Alcaraz made sense to me. Kone was unfortunate as he got a nasty injury in his first game for us and missed loads of time. Alcaraz was a back up (or was supposed to be) who I thought was generally fine until his mare in Kyiv. He knew them too of course.

McGeady however...

One of his bigger mistakes for me was bringing Howard back in for Robles at the time.
