Why is everyone shocked?
He can't go round firing people but what he can do is turn them into successful likeminded people.
Mosh is a winner and his experience and influence will aid others and will become beneficial to EFC in the long term.
This was never a quick fix and I must say so far Mosh's BBQ tastes good!

Not really mate, I was definitely positive after the Chelsea game and what he had to say etc, but then he puts in Elstone as a director, and I know it doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things but it doesn't indicate that he is going anywhere anytime soon.

1. He's worked with Elstone before at a previous company, so will know all about him
2. In real terms Elstone is exactly where he was before, only he has the title of director, no more power, he was already on the board before this
3. if he does want to release elstone as ceo, then a prior 'promotion' before releaving him of the ceo duties is a nice and sneaky way to go about it, effectively promoting someone up out of a job you don't want them to do, a lot of companies have done that with employees
4. Moshiri couldn't come in and start sacking people left and right who are udner contracts and have been at the club a long time as it would cause mayhem behind the scenes mate, extreme takeovers don't end the best usually, gradual and thought out ones do

Can see both sides with Elstone. He comes off horribly in public and doesn't have good (or any) diplomacy skills. But you could also argue that with the club being skint, the most important thing in contract negotiations was generating short-term liquidity even if it costs them in the long run.

Kitbag would certainly fall in that category, particularly on the expense side of the ledger. Everton doesn't have to employ people with retail experience to run the operation or deal with printing, signing up retail store partners, distribution, import/export hassles, buybacks of unsold merchandise, etc.

This is all going to go very negative isn't it?, I mean why would he bring Elstone onto the board?

Theres an old saying about keeping your friends close and your enemies even closer. Could it be that even though Suntan Bob appears to have a reverse Midas touch (turning most things to Turd) that it is beneficial to keep him around for his knowledge of what has gone on and how the deals of recent years have been approached, crafted, agreed, etc - is it useful to have him around for the new and hopefully better team to be able to unpick his shenanigans?

Moshiri has worked at a number of the worlds largest accountancy firms including Deloitte which is were elstone started out. I'm fairly sure that someone like moshiri knows exactly what elstone has for breakfast & whilst I'm sure the majority of the fanbase want him out lets just wait &'see this may be a calculated move I have no idea what the calculation is but then I'm just a normal guy not a billionaire unfortunately

I would think its a paper exercise.

Elstone has been pretty much running the club over the past two years or so.
Kenwrights been absent, Woods not involved.

Probably about keeping continuity..Elstone has been Evertons representative through out much changes in football and in particular the Premier League.

I suspect Elstone duties may be diluted somewhat, there have been several high level appointments over the last few months.

Like it or not Elstone knows the club like the back of his hand currently.

For me I suspect this is Moshiri laying down a challenge to the old board one he will respect but also harbour scepticism given the opportunities we have missed over the years.

Elstone was the Chief Exec but until now not on the board, therefore when it came to major decisions he would have had limited influence when it came to board decisions ie investment etc.

Elstone will be a Moshiri appointment to the board so that he has two board votes against the two votes of Woods and Kenwright. As Elstone knows that when it comes to appointing a Chief Exec, the board would undertake the search etc but ultimately in a private business the major shareholder will have the final and ultimate say. This is Moshiri protecting his investment and if Elstone doesn't step up he will be out before the new season. The other guy whilst not day to day will be Moshiri's influance at board level.

If I remember correctly our last couple of CHief Execs we had were on be board. Notably Birch who resigned because the board didn't like what he had to say. So I was not surprised Elstone was not on the board until now.

So in the past five days we have

  • A statement from Moshiri that his intention is to fund squad development and more importantly retention
  • A new corporate entertainment manager with a proven track record
  • An appointment to the board of someone who appears to have a track record in financial restructuring

Decent five days for the club, oh and we beat Chelsea too

I assume you think that it will be an adversarial board from this statement. Personally I don't believe it will be, and even if it were a 2 all draw, the casting vote belongs with the Chairman according to the Articles if I recall correctly.
CBA checking, but if I'm wrong I apologise.

Elstone has been a board member for at least 2 years, possibly 3. Until today he was never a director.
Apologies He was never on the board of directors. Therefore he may have attended board meetings but as he wasn't a director his influence was limited.
