no-one we get will be better than fellaini.

At least not immediately, but it will be hard to even develop a player to be as good as him. His touch, control, strength, aerial presence and chest of a thousand truths. But you never know, hopefully Martinez has an eye for boss, obscure players.

makes it even more sad if that release clause is true that chumps like fernandinho and witsel can go for £32 mil+ if he hasnt got a fixed fee then we should slap £30 mil on him if arsenal want him they gotta pay big

According to a local journo. There is a release clause at about the level reported. EFC have to pay 15% of profit to Standard and also a fixed agent & loyalty fee. EFC will receive around £21m. The noises within the club are that Martinez gets it all.

disgraceful bit of business that £21 mil for a world class player number one rule for a skint owner who relies on player sales for transfers DONT PUT LOW RELEASE CLAUSES ON PLAYERS

If there is a release clause then it's almost certain that Fellaini's agent and Fellaini himself were the ones trying to include it in the contract. I remember being fairly surprised when he signed his latest contract as he looked like he may have been off then but really it was to protect his value and keep him here a bit longer. In return Fellaini has a situation where if a Champions League club comes in for him and matches the clause (which I think is quite a fair valuation of him) then he can leave. It's worked well for both parties really.

24m isnt low.

And the club didnt do it.

it is for:
1. a club who is skint and relies on player sales
2. a player who has a sell on clause for another club
3. a world class player in his position

If we had Liverpool/Spurs money fair enough as we will have £30 mil+ to spend on top of that but we have shot ourselves in the foot with this IMO especially as fernandinho has just gone for £34 mil who is 28 and nowhere near as good, Mikirychan is off to the RS for around £20 mil

As he should with all this extra Sky money. After the Felli sale should have about £30m to spend.

We're not in a position to command ridiculously high transfer fees though. If we were a regular CL team then I reckon we could get an extra £5m out of him. Even the RS can command higher transfer fees than we can because of their superior finances (double our turnover) and larger worldwide appeal. It all makes a difference.

That Fernandinho deal is really confusing though. Maybe he's absolutely ace and we just don't know it.

We're run like a whelk stall.

Regardless of that though, get Fellaini out asap and let's have some players in with the cash off him. Then maybe if we get Heitinga shifted later Martinez can go into the market again before September.

That does sound about right and reasonable i reckon. And Kenwright did say a few weeks ago that who ever Martinez chooses to sell, he will get every penny of any fee that comes in!.

So IF he did get £21m from the Fellaini sale and say, £8m already put up by the board, then £29m isnt bad going at all. And with losing the likes of Moyes, Neville and Felli who were/are big earners, i dont think much of that £29m will be used on wages, Moyes's, Neville's, Felli's, Mucha's, Hitzlsperger's and Heitinga's (IF he's sold?!) wages should get put to one side to offer to any new players coming into the club!.

This is the concern. How much will RM actually see?

Kenwright's confirmation at the Martinez presser that the release clause does indeed exist, does not bode well.
It was like he was putting Felli in the shop window. Need to sell another asset to keep the banks away.

I for one would do everything to keep him, even if that meant offering him higher wages again.

Offload some of the older and fringe players first. Even if that means the likes of Pienaar, Osman and Hibbert.
The reduction in wage bill is also going to help. Bill would have got Roberto at a snip of what he was paying Moyes.

Aye this is true. We're now in the position were were willing selling one of our better players so we can afford to bring in some new players. We've been conditioned well. Surely there can't be too many more years of this?
