Financial Fair Play investigation

Do you think this team is capable of getting over 45 points? Because that’s probably what we’d need to do next season to survive with a 9 point deduction. Personally I don’t think it is, it’s an absolutely honking squad.
Ah well that's another question and tbh as it stands I agree with you on that and no mate I'm not sure. Id like to see Dyche give some chance to some of the younger lads which could save us money but part of the reason the squad is so bad is because of the poor managerial appointments we keep making, apart from Silva we haven't appointed anyone who wants to actually develop or improve the players, we don't encourage them to actually be better, it's all happy on the good ship Everton, it's half of our problem. I think we will get a hefty fine like West Ham did that time over Tevez rather than a points deduction, taking points from us sets a massive precedent for the Man City thing so the PL need to be very very careful how they play this, we have 1 charge whereas they have 100+

More than likely not - 45 points would be the absolute maximum and best case scenario for these players.

You'd worry if it was combined with a transfer embargo though. The standard of relegation fodder will improve year on year with the sort of money floating around the league. We're already 'weaker' comparatively from after January's window selling Gordon and seeing the likes of Leeds and Soton improve their squads.
It's one charge we are facing I doubt we are going to suffer multiple punishments for it. If it did it just means we need to start using our youngsters a bit more.

It will all come out in the wash during the summer and the inevitable points deduction and compensation we will end up paying to relegated clubs.

I’ll call it now with my theory. Last day of the window during that season. Our financial experts and accountants told the board not to sign anyone as we are at our absolute limit on the balance sheet.

Bill’s ego then took over as he “had to be the guy to save Everton”. Despite being told not to sign anyone, got on the blower to his mate Levy who know doubt sold him down a river with a deal of the century for a Deli Ali.

Ali was signed breaching the financial fair play, the accountants came in the next day and collapsed at their desks.

(I have no evidence to back this up, however it’s probably accurate).

If it's the Dele transfer thats set something off, have to believe there's an argument that we've not paid anything anywhere, and that the 'book value' or whatever they want to call it is not representative

Still not having any sort of points deduction. Hefty fine, possibly a transfer ban

Reckon Levy has claimed it as a £40m sale on their books and that’s what has kicked this off.

Unless we’re charged with outright corruption (not impossible I guess) I don’t see how a single charge could lead to a points deduction AND a transfer embargo. That’s just expulsion by another route. Bearing in mind City are charged with endless counts of deliberately deceiving the league, with that precedent set the only punishment for them would be getting fired directly into the sun.

Yes. And he's only giving his view. However, I think they all know that we're operating in the PL now under the gaze of the politicians.

He probably knows a guilty verdict is coming our way and the precedent is there from another English league on a single player transaction that tips a club over into a points deduction for the commission to draw on.
How does he know there will a guilty verdict and what the outcome will be, does he know the result of the Spurs game next Monday night? That’s all I’m interested and worrying about at the moment never mind next bleedin’ season.

I think we’d try our best to delay any points deduction for as long as possible, appealing and delaying it so that it applies to the 24/25 season at the earliest.

I’m not convinced there will be a points deduction tho, it’s not even clear what we’ve been charged with yet, and it’s not a foregone conclusion that we will be found guilty.

Yes, I take those points.

I was surprised Maguire said that. I'd like to have heard Jordan's view but we didn't get it on punishment.

They'll be charged with something though. And given the political climate I fully expect it to be the worst case outcome.

The question is how great the deduction will be. They may as well relegate Everton with a 10 point deduction. It has to be less.

I'd also wonder how they will allow Everton to be run in terms of signing players in the PL under a points deduction. I mean, is it just a points deduction or more? Can we sell to buy and try and improve the squad that way to maybe have a season where we have a chance of running up 50 points?

That's an piutisd epossibility for us to avoid relegation.

TBH a season with a 10 point deduction would be a living nightmare. I'd rather the relegation option.

I agree. There is punishment but that would be beyond cruel. They know they would be effectively relegating us with a sanction of that severity.

I still think its impossible to draw that conclusion, there is a whole case to be heard, defense to be heard and due process and no one has even seen the accounts.

A point deduction doesn't seem logical to me, say we are given a points deduction may as well go out and blow a fortune and give ourselves a chance - defeats the purpose really of managing losses. Something like an embargo or squad limit makes more sense.
