Financial Fair Play investigation

Maybe the question is how can selling Digne allow us to buy both Patterson and Mykolenko.

Can't think of anyone else we paid anything significant for.

That would mean if we start the season with 3 consecutive wins, something we haven’t done since about 2006, then we would be on 0 points. Of course we’re going down if we get a 9 point deduction.
No, we just need to make those results up over the course of the season, yes it helps if it's straight off the bat but it doesn't have to be. 9 points is not a lot to make up we should be able to do that imo.

Do you think this team is capable of getting over 45 points? Because that’s probably what we’d need to do next season to survive with a 9 point deduction. Personally I don’t think it is, it’s an absolutely honking squad.

Dont know how Maguire can draw that conclusion given the accounts have released and this is a precedent.

Also its talksport, all about the drama and whipping it up isn't it.
Yes, I take those points.

I was surprised Maguire said that. I'd like to have heard Jordan's view but we didn't get it on punishment.

They'll be charged with something though. And given the political climate I fully expect it to be the worst case outcome.

The question is how great the deduction will be. They may as well relegate Everton with a 10 point deduction. It has to be less.

I'd also wonder how they will allow Everton to be run in terms of signing players in the PL under a points deduction. I mean, is it just a points deduction or more? Can we sell to buy and try and improve the squad that way to maybe have a season where we have a chance of running up 50 points?

That's an piutisd epossibility for us to avoid relegation.

TBH a season with a 10 point deduction would be a living nightmare. I'd rather the relegation option.

94% of income going straight out on player wages hasn’t helped. Players like Andre Gomes and Rondon who contribute zero swallowed £200k a week on their own.

You'd worry if it was combined with a transfer embargo though. The standard of relegation fodder will improve year on year with the sort of money floating around the league. We're already 'weaker' comparatively from after January's window selling Gordon and seeing the likes of Leeds and Soton improve their squads.

Would loans for Van De Beek, Alli and El Ghazi all be that cheap? Fee and wages usually for loans like these but not always.

Hiring Benitez, firing Benitez and hiring Lampard would all count towards FFP but whether the Benitez payoff would be over the term of the contract or one lump sum, how would it be accounted for.

Know Maguire is well respected but is there an element of playing to the gallery here? Seemed pretty measured on SSN but for Talksport, who we know always want extreme sound bites for their Twitter engagement, he’s chucking about points deductions. Nice little clip for them to get panic clicks from the fans, he’ll be invited back.

There’s never been a PL points deduction for this kind of thing so without precedent he’s guessing what the threshold might be.
Yes. And he's only giving his view. However, I think they all know that we're operating in the PL now under the gaze of the politicians.

He probably knows a guilty verdict is coming our way and the precedent is there from another English league on a single player transaction that tips a club over into a points deduction for the commission to draw on.

Usually a straight compensation fee I think.

We dont know if there will be a penalty and if so what kind
You are all guessing and speculating
We can survive even with a deduction, we have a better manager than the fools we sacked

If it's the Dele transfer thats set something off, have to believe there's an argument that we've not paid anything anywhere, and that the 'book value' or whatever they want to call it is not representative

Still not having any sort of points deduction. Hefty fine, possibly a transfer ban
The terms of payments will presumably be outlined clearly in the contract. It should be pretty easy to determine what is owed by Everton and what has been received by Spurs, and how any future payments could arise. If the contract is contingent with certain clauses triggering payments, then the accounting treatment should be relatively clear .
