Financial Fair Play investigation

I still think its impossible to draw that conclusion, there is a whole case to be heard, defense to be heard and due process and no one has even seen the accounts.

A point deduction doesn't seem logical to me, say we are given a points deduction may as well go out and blow a fortune and give ourselves a chance - defeats the purpose really of managing losses. Something like an embargo or squad limit makes more sense.
Can't comment on other Leagues but in our League when an FFP position is under dispute that generally is a trigger for an embargo in if itself.

Football League with Derby had a squad limit rule but this was because they had submitted accounts in a compliant manner as well as the FFP disputes. Think HMRC were also overdue.

23 man squad and the criteria was Professional Standing.
Which meant that anyone who had played a minute of Professional Football at any Professional level would count. League said they had 28 so no signings needed plus we'll still be looking to charge over FFP.

The League eventually relented a little after they acknowledged it'd be unfair to include 9 players who played one FA Cup game due to a Covid outbreak so they were permitted the following. Squad permitted to 23 of Professional Standing and they had 19.

4 signings:
1) Wages not exceeding £4.5k per week per signing.
2) No transfer fees payable.
3) No loan fees payable.
4) Dunno about agents fees, signing on fees are.

Reading were permitted 24 "Established Players", same rules but more like 21 or above who had made 5 starts at Championship level or above. No transfer fees etc, wages not exceeding £8.5k per new addition.

I agre with you.

I've heard two projections on what we can expect so far - one from Maguire and the other from the Esk. Neither seem that hopeful of avoiding a points deduction.

I will say this about Maguire though: as someone who's livelihood depends on dealing with what's in front of him and not giving rash judgements (as he did on tv) he shouldn't have been giving a guestimate about what he thinks will happen. He should have batted that question back to White saying it was difficult to telll. You cant be prejudging and influencing. I mean, I dont want to shoot the messenger here, but that's fair comment I think. t was unprofessional.

Also, Maguire on tv stated that the points deduction was the most extreme ruling that Everton could get. A couple of hours later on TalkSport it became what he believes to be the most likely outcome. I'm not sure how that leap occurs in a couple of hours. Unless, of course, he views the extreme decision to be the most likely in this circumstane.

He seems to be drawing heavly on the B'ham / Pedersen affair in all his interviews so far, which leaves out a lot of context and dissimilarities.

Anyway...

For us to receive a points deduction, the FA will need to be ready to back that up in future years with other clubs.

I just don't see them doing so.
As the Football League showed, once you start with deductions for overspending then a precedent is set and it becomes a benchmark. It's a really interesting test case.

I cant be accused of that mate. I'm the one stating that the two experts Ilve heard so far have said we'll get points deductions.

It's not wrong though to suggest that this is uncharted territory and no one has a grip on this yet.

Tell you what, if we get a points deduction for breaking one rule, City will surely be relegated down about 18 divisions, stripped of all honours from the last decade, be fined tens of millions of pounds, have severe transfer restrictions slapped on them for years and have a forced sale of the club pushed through - right? Right?! lol

The “single transfer” theory has a lot of people assuming Dele giving the unusual aspects of that but given we were cutting it fine on the final day of the FY could it be the league feel the Richy deal wasn’t done in time to be in the 21/22 accounts?

Thats right.

Well, I've always tried to do that. It'd be nice if some more people on here challenged those bullying me like.
People stood up to me on your behalf when I bullied you Dave, and since I've calmed down a bit I'd like to apologise for the fact that I did. You're an alright bloke, even if I don't agree with a lot of your opinions.

As long as they don't fast track it all, any deduction would be next season by the sounds of it. So it's still in the hands of Dyche and the players to get us into a position to absorb it. Say its a 10 point deduction? Get safely mid table and we still might stay up (obviously relies on us staying up this season)

It'd finish us.

A season where we're running to stay slightly more than still and finally failing by about Easter 2024.

That's not a commensurate punishment to for our 'crime', it's a death penalty for breaking a few windows.

...I think we may be facing that though. Hopefully it'll be less than 10, but anything around 5 will look like a free pass to any teams relegated. Maybe 8, which would be still horrendous.

It's not totally impossible. It's not like Arsenal, United and them lot would threaten a walkout if City got demoted. I agree that it's highly unlikely though. Juve's 15 points is more probable for a big case like City. Having titles revoked is messy and complicated and drags on for years.
