Financial Fair Play investigation

The PL signed off on the accounts. The Athletic suggested that certain transfers in were also blocked, not this summer but previously. There has been ongoing co-operation. I don't expect a smoking gun to emerge at this stage and if there was, it would reflect very poorly on the Premier League. The club can only answer to the specified charge.

The optics look good since in terms of belt tightening. Their representatives will make much of that at the hearing.

I expect a financial sanction but nothing more severe than that.

Did the PL really 'sign off the accounts'? I don't think this is something that the PL do. The PL are provided with accounts that will have been signed off by an accountant, and then they make a judgement based on the information detailed within said accounts. It's not like a piece of homework that the PL hand back to the author; telling Everton to change the content of their submission in order to pass or fail.

Personally, I don't think there has been as much hand-holding as has been suggested. I don't believe that the PL have had controlling oversight of Everton's bank account with them preventing expenditure that they object to. I think this is a myth. It's not the PL's responsibility to provide such hand-holding.

I'm also not convinced by this story that "It's only a tax issue relating to the stadium". I hope this is true, and that our alleged breach is not something more serious than that, but I'm not convinced at all. We will see.

The fact that previous accounts did not result in any alleged breach doesn't mean that our latest set of accounts are fine either. The PL being fine with our accounts in 2022 doesn't mean that they are okay with our set of accounts in 2023.

I honestly think nothing can happen with this now. We have been charged with 1 thing. If anything happens other than a fine then they simply have to send Man City down the river. They may relegate them, strip them of titles etc, it opens such a scary door.

If they are saying we have messed up with our spending then they are admitting fault themselves as apparently we did everything with the Premier Leagues approval. If it is to do with the stadium and it’s a foresight or an accounting error then this should not affect anything to do with football such as transfer bans, points deductions etc.

To put finely I don’t think anything can actually happen with this now. And they can’t actually advise the premier league to do anything.

Cities charges are vastly different to the allegations against Everton

Yours is that you overspent theirs is that they basically concealed, fiddled , lied and deceived. If they are found guilty then the implication for them is horrendous.

In a way you have to hope that the PL didn’t set spending limits / plans if there is a proven case that will complicate matters and yes I know it’s the EFL but Reading have just suffered a points deduction for breeching a spending plan that was in place between the club and the league.

Yours will to a degree be a test case many others will follow and yep it wouldn’t surprise me if Chelsea were facing the same dilemma.

A fine is not meant to be a solution.

It's a punishment for poor management of the club and a deterrent not to do it again.

We only have ourselves to blame.
Agreed, and raises questions that the Mosh, is supposed to have been a top accountant.

The Castore kit rumour, along with the 777 potential take over of Everton for me shows how the club has been run into a rotten mess, over decades.

UTFTs!

Trying to get my head around this. How can they sue us if the timing of the hearing and any sanction is the responsibility of the Premier League independent panel. If we have breached and then we are punished it’s the premier leagues fault that it’s nit within the same season.

The club had to work with the pl to sign players they had to agree what we could spend ect. Also since then club has been cutting back ven what we have spent in 2023 beto is not from this window is next year so we have still spent very little this season. Club is not in a great way with the accounts but that is because of the stadium. They have cut costs of the playing side mina walcott and more

So how many times can you be punished for 1 offence (if proven guilty). This suing lark is just sour grapes by the sound of it. If they try and sue and fail then we should be compensated for undue stress 😂
Ignore that clown from the mail it is like every week with him. Just making up stories now about the club, yes is alot of crap going on with the rubbish we have in control of the club atm. But is just lie after lie with him now would just ban him from ever going to anything to do with us game, press events the club has is the only way
