Financial Fair Play investigation

I’ve said this before, but we’re in trouble here because we’re the Goldilocks club that’s just right for making an example of.

We’re big enough for people to sit up and take notice when we’re punished, but not big enough for the vested interests that power the league to care about protecting us.
This has all been played out through the press, it's them that put that slant on it. However consider that Everton do get hit hard, they appeal and use the City case as an example of being treated unfairly? The PL need to manage their image. They don't want independent interference they cannot control.
The fact this rears its head the day after the chairman dies is appalling.
The PL is corrupt, we know that, but if they make the wrong call on this, and that could be either way, then it could be the death knell for it.
I still believe it collapses soon and an American style franchise system comes in, like an erm, super league 🤔

It's stretching a bit al this though isn't it?

I reckon it'll be about overspending. That's what the original complaint from Burnley and Leeds was about. Occam's Razor.
My only point is that if there are questions about tax, that doesn’t mean the tax authorities would be involved. They’re often two different sets of numbers for two very different purposes.

I think our players spending has been under enough scrutiny that it would be surprising if there was an issue there.

I find this an odd argument. It’s not been played out in the press at all. Quite the opposite, it’s why we have no idea what’s going on.

On city? Yes their case has taken years, but one of the reasons they are being charged is for deliberately obstructing the investigation. Which has made things slower

The PL are not prosecuting. This is not a criminal proceedings.

They are not even Plaintiffs in a civil case. They are a body that has asked an independent commission to examine some allegations agcinst one of its members.

it is whoĺly in appropriate to make such recommendations before the Commission has even made its determination.

BTW in a criminal trial, the prosecution cannot make any recommendations regarding punishment before a verdict has been given.

That is how the legal system works.
actually the judge does ask the prosecution on the sentence actually...asks what they think... so you are wrong :)

Anyone thinking that the decision to deduct 12 points hasn’t already been made is naive. You could argue that the committee/panel assessing this hasn’t made a decision yet but the fact is this is effectively a softening up of the opposition. When they come back with their recommendation no one will be shocked.

the committe/panel wont have made a decision but would have already formed an opinon based on what they have already read before the hearing actually started. The hearing is more arguments to sway that thought process.

So where does the information come from today? The club? The PL? Other than one very vague comment from the club a while ago everything has been in the press. I think you're naive if you think it's obfuscating keeping City out the firing line.

they can leg it.

correct me if i am wrong, but we have only one charge against us right? 12 point deduction would be so grossly over the top it would be commical. Slap on the wrist is all i expect. If they go down this route City and Chelsea will be worried, and if they let them off lightly there is our grounds of appeal right there.

It's not come from the Independent Commission it's come from a PL source.

e.g. some rube who's seen the PL report or a mention of it in an email and told a journalist.

It only came from the Daily Mail that there was a singular charge and it was in relation to tax on stadium financing at the time of print.

The official PL statement states;

In accordance with Premier League Rule W.82.1, the Premier League confirms that it has today referred an alleged breach of the League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules by Everton Football Club to a Commission under Premier League Rule W.3.4. The assessment period for which it is alleged that the Club is in breach is the period ending Season 2021/22.

But unlike the Man City statement they don't actually state the specific rule the breach is in relation to. Or if it was multiple breaches in relation to one rule.

Guess it depends on how your interpret their statement.

I have just read both statements.
Its astonishing how different they both are.
