Financial Fair Play investigation

….they might get sued for officially announcing something, but newspapers have contacts that leak information.
That may be the case but the story originated from the Telegraph who are absolutely abysmal and have actively been trolling Everton for ages now. It was then repeated by all the usual repeaters until it looked like it was true. Happens with everything which is why discernment needs to be used. It is far more likely to be more of the same nonsense than have any credibility to it. The PL are not going to put themselves into a position where they can implode an ongoing independent investigation and face legal action.

The story is obvious codswallop imo.

Even if there is no points deduction, this will not end well for us.

I've seen numerous references to Everton as "cheats" etc going on for months as if every other club was holier than thou.

We could never expect decisions in our favour in matches against "big" teams but this just adds to the narrative that we deserve nothing, and should be punished.

I am sure referees are influenced by that, and the general image the club now has, does nothing to help attract and retain sponsorship, either. But I know 777 will address that :)

Even so, if an excessive sanction is the outcome, it also gives two fingers to genuine efforts on the clubs part to tighten its belt and get its books in order over the last three seasons - to such a degree that we could have been relegated anyway.

I cannot believe that a 12-point deduction would be the outcome taking all factors into consideration, but it certainly seems like a points deduction of a lesser magnitude is on the cards, and I don't think we can absorb that either, unless its maybe 3 points. If it's to be a deduction, it will be more than that.

….an article on Sky Sports said the decision is ‘expected later this year’. No idea if that’s accurate.

There's no way we are the only club going beyond £105M in a 3 year period. Even if we've written off the extra as tax payments for the stadium, there has to be other clubs that have sailed just as close to the limit as us. I'm sure that's been discussed in the review, but whatever they do has to be evenly done to all clubs in future...

Confidentiality laws (data protection) still applies. Would not matter if it were one off cuff remark at a private dinner. Not the best comparison, however, it was Alison Rose that broke confidentiality as an individual but was Natwest V Farage recently.

"Angies Liverpool on X: "The Liverpool team in fancy dress 1980s #LFC https://t.co/bOefG4g6Cv" / X"

Here is the 'independent' judge and jury hearing our case. The LFC dominated media, have it in for us
But their real goal is Man City as Carragher said the other day. They want 'precedence set', to further attack City and constantly get points deducted from them.

I'm not sure who that woman is or why you're hanging her up for judgment.

Just had a quick scan of her feed and I only found Everton-related posts - so be fair.

Doesn’t mean hack journos can’t peddle clickbait for their kopite customers though. Anti Everton stories are the best sellers after all as they rake in all the usual kopite audience and also get concerned Everton fans too plus the disenchanted fragile bra from Leeds West Ham Leicester Newcastle and anyone else who has invented a rivalry with us recently.
The Telegraph have been scurrilous in the past two years. Their very first report on this was filed the day after we beat Palace at home to secure our PL place two seasons ago. Then they've constantly implied they knew wtf was going on with this process ever since, and they haven't got a clue.

….and I think that’s the debate here. More specifically;

Have the Telegraph totally fabricated the article or are they publishing detail given to their reporter by a contact within the PL? Given the extent to which this is now being reported, surely the PL would come out and deny the detail if it isn’t accurate.

Seems to me there’s a lot of Chinese whispers and linguistic games happening.

Looking at one of the original tweets “as maximum punishment” seems to have been interpreted as “the PL have demanded the maximum punishment, which is 12 points”. Which is the version that’s going to get clicks.

But the PL handbook doesn’t set a maximum punishment, everything including expulsion or anything the commission see fit are listed as options. So where does maximum come in?

It seems to me plausible the PL may have advised that they feel the appropriate punishment for a case of this type is anything up to a maximum of 12 points, otherwise I don’t see where maximum comes into it. The “up to” is crucial but doesn’t make for as juicy a headline.
