Financial Fair Play investigation

One thing I find disturbing is how nearly everyone posting here seems to have accepted we're guilty and that we will be punished, which all seems to stem from the ridiculous report that the premier league are pushing for a 12 point deduction which was completely wide of the mark of premier league pushing for a penalty of upto 12 points. I personally think (admittedly from my limited knowledge of the actual charge) that we are in a much more solid position given the history of having our books open at all times with the premier league throughout the period the charge relates to. I'm going for zero points deduction premier league to pay all our costs and pay us £25m in fines for dragging our good name through the mud.

If they have the nerve to punish us for being completely open and honest with our accounts then we should hit back with some form of punishment of our own!

If they dock us 12 points we could get 12 people to run on the pitch in the 12th minute of every game?

What happened if you break a rule that isn't a rule tho?

You can argue that you never knew this was a rule so the league's argument just goes away?

We set the precedent and we take a suspended sentence then every clubs knows they can't do that
But we're suspected of breaking a rule that is a rule.

It's the punishment that's unclear.

It is unclear on what we have done but if and it's a big IF, the charge is about a Tax Issue based on the Stadium, how can and why should that impact the football side of the team?

Especially if we have worked with league regarding their FFP requirements over the year or so and also reduced our wage bill plus sold assets for big money making the club more financially stronger.

I just feel we are the benchmark so clubs need to be aware of future issues on Stadium Taxes but after financial fair play (2013) was introduced what club had built a new stadium from scratch with government/council help or a pre-made sport stadium already built on this scale. Brentford cost £71m for their stadium btw.

I think it's fair for a suspected sentence for a year or 2 and a fine for the tax due. Points shouldn't come near it

Without knowing the details, it's impossible to say.

The PL think we might have broken the rules, that's all we know.

Its quite ridiculous and shows such a GroupThink Mentality!

We are innocent until someone proves without doubt any charge levied at us. Even then we appeal it!

Our name has been besmirched by these charlatans and its simply unacceptable.

No penalty is warranted. They want you to think this way. Let them announce the charge and inquiry result then let them negotiate over anything they wanna impose

lets not be Everton about it, lets be business like and scream from the rafters, kopite behaviour or not, NO OTHER TEAM will accept this level of mud slinging and scrutiny!

I think the fact that the club have said they are confident that they won`t be found guilty, with their track record over the years telling porky pies, has a good number of us just believing the opposite of what the club says is true.

Yeah, in all honesty I take no solace from those positive noises from the club at all.

But not in my case because I think they are lying.

More because I have no confidence at all in their competence or grasp of the details.

Everything can easily be brought back to the pitch given the way the restrictions are structured. If we left a 1 mill cost out of the P&S calc that would have increased our losses (by wrongly saying it’s infrastructure related so except), that would leave an extra 1 mill to buy a player and be within the limits, which we wouldn’t have had if we had treated the cost properly. Doesn’t matter what the breaching item is, could be charitable etc. But if we reduced our losses by excluding something, that leaves more room for squad spending. Sadly.

The Brentford stadium cost £71m? Bit steep for a glorified bus shelter.

The league is damned if they do, damned if they don’t. There is no way a serious punishment will stick with their own incompetence in allowing us to take advantage of the Covid situation. The lack of transparency on the rules then will bite them in the arse now. The league should have just exempted the Covid seasons from the rules as it looks messy now.

We can appeal but it's technically to the same people - although you would hope it would be seen by different judges.

If we are banged to rights to deserve a penalty then likely we would still get the same on appeal. If the worst does happen basically may as well take the hit now, don't think we'll see worse teams in the league. I still think it will be minimal if we do get something.

hope we’re proven innocent anyway

not made a scapegoat of!
