so many people talking down about our status here. We might not be sky 6 darlings but in premier league status we’re a big club and very good for the premier league brand.

We are founders, ever present, historic, sell out home and away, make loads of noise in aways, have a historic ground, are getting a top class new stadium, have the Merseyside derby which they televise every time because of viewing figures.

Reading some of these comments you’d think we were Fulham with no history or fanbase. There isn’t a single team that the league/sky would want to replace us with in the championship because we bring viewers and create drama on the tv with passionate fans.

Im shooting in the dark here but i would have thought City and Chelsea being two of the sky darlings does us a favour. They wont want to damage their brand, be it through independent or themselves, and if they only go for Everton with a points deduction the backlash of that will be huge.
And i think you're right. We're a bigger club than both of them bar the last few years with their money.
I can see a suspended sentence and a fine.

Other way for me i think they want to look serious and strong so trying to go after us for a statement. This city case will go on for years same with chelsea

I dont know tbh. But im already seeing a lot of stuff within the media about how cheap it looks if only Everton get done. And how corrupt it makes them look.

Ive no idea how this will play out.

Same i have no idea they wont care about how corrupt already showed it this season only the so called big teams get audio from var. just cant wait till its over

Well, that's the biggest load of bull I've seen on here for a while.

Well done; takes some doing that.
Take it in context - we were talking about in the eyes of the premier league and general world football viewers of the televised games. Of course were BIG, but comparably, especially to the contextual breakaway six that preceded that statement, we are but small fish to them currently. You may not like that, but were not the huge draw of their fave top 6 or so teams at the moment. Save the odd televised derby. Sad but true.

Just as a matter of interest who do you currently compare us along side ?
Personally, I compare us to nobody - we are by far the biggest and best team in the world. But to the Premier League, if putting us in the same boat as United, Chelsea, City etc, they dont quite see us as we see ourselves, or perhaps is the actual truth (if you can quantify how big a team is).

The PL can't afford to go after either. They, the PL, like their money too much and won't want to...or can't afford to...spend £millions trying to shoot down those two. It will also probably lead to a complete break up of the Premier League if either club simply says 'stuff it, were off to join a European Super League' at which point the PL may just as well wrap up!

Apologies my question was to John from Bootle who disagreed with your assesment on where we are to date in comparison to other teams

Yeah but they are BIG clubs, they rightly or wrongly mean a LOT to them but we are Everton and currently are no bigger than Wolves, Sheff Utd or Leicester
and Leeds, they will just not be arsed.

Total nonsense on so many levels!

Whilst we might not be the force we once were we are still far bigger than each of those clubs.

They are all essentially Championship clubs that pop up to the Premier League for a few years.

We are one of only six teams that have competed in every single season in the Premier League. To say we are no bigger than Wolves, Sheff Utd or Leicester is laughable!

We are in sort of a no-mans land really.

Nowhere near in touch with the elite 6 or 7 clubs but equally not comparable to clubs like Fulham or Crystal Palace.

If I had to categorise us presently, it would be with Villa and to a lesser degree, West Ham. I believe we are a bigger club than both, with bigger potential, but Villa are ahead of us at present and W Ham did win a pot last season. It might have been a third-rate one but it still does something for recognition.

The stadium will help us but it can only do so much. The product is on the pitch.

We live off our history but that becomes fainter and less sustainable with each year that passes, and each time another Newcastle or equivalent overtake us overnight.

Anytime this comes up, I'm reminded of a conversation I had with a French work colleague a couple of years ago. He isn't a big football fan but watches games occasionally. He honestly wasn't sure that Everton were a PL club. He knew we played against "big" teams, but thought they might have been cup games. He wasn't being smart. We are not relevant in the modern game. That's the reality.
