Financial Fair Play investigation

This was the PL judgement in relation to 6 clubs that went ahead and signed up to a plan to destroy the PL itself...

"The six clubs involved in proposals to form a European Super League have today acknowledged once again that their actions were a mistake, and have reconfirmed their commitment to the Premier League and the future of the English game. They have wholeheartedly apologised to their fans, fellow clubs, the Premier League and The FA. As a gesture of goodwill, the clubs have collectively agreed to make a contribution of £22m which will go towards the good of the game, including new investment in support for fans, grassroots football and community programmes. Furthermore, the clubs have agreed to support rule changes so that any similar actions in the future would lead to a 30 point deduction. Each of the six clubs, in that event, would also be subject to an additional £25m fine."

In light of that, if we got any substantial fine or deduction of points for transgressing the PL's FFP rules (and having been assured by that same PL all was ok) then there's going to be amazement in all quarters of the game in this country.

They want to be seen as doing something, taking action, and us and city have flown closest to the sun recently

The only thing I trust Moshiri on is the fact he’s a billionaire accountant and won’t have got this particular area of the club wrong
One would have thought, right?

However, the man doesn't fill us all with any confidence does he?

Its looking more and more like that, the media narrative is interesting, the easy headline is our breach - but the emerging headlines are all about the regulation power play and the incredulous clubs citing their inconsistency in communication and change of behaviour, this in bad for brand PL and becoming very transparent, our defence is mounting.

Imagine the club coming out and accusing the PL of seen to be acting to minimise a Government intervention, Wouldn't even have to, I suspect a quite conversation, with that dropped in will see us right, particularly when you consider their role in oversight.

PL up to their neck in this as much as we are.

FFP is in disrepute. I think that's gloing to be the real outcome of EFC and City cases. It wont hold on for much longer and it'll be scrapped. It's unenforceable.

Just looked into this ‘independent regulator’ nonsense. That’s the government trying to well step over the mark imo. They shouldn’t have anything like the power they want to have over football!

It won’t work either. The government having to approve club’s business models, lol. What are you going to do if they don’t approve? Kick the club out? Repossess the club and sell it to someone else at auction? Are they going to apply the same rules to each club?

It won’t work, and it would ruin football and the PL, the exact opposite of what they claim to be doing.
I think maybe there is a concern that the national game which has been gradually stolen from us, may go even further. It looks good from a tory PR view that this is one element of business they rein in.

We’ll only know for sure when we see the 2021/22 accounts anyway. Esk is forecasting that our rolling 3 year loss will be over £200m so even knocking the USM sponsorship off that we won’t be anywhere near the £105m figure needed to be on the right side of the rules.

I think that is before deductions and crystalisation has kicked in though. The Esk's formula is we are around £30m over. He also accepts the premise outlined is correct, but would assume uncrystalised losses would still be accepted (which they may not be).
Ultimately, the 2021/22 accounts have to show better than a -13m loss. But as with most P&L statements, the veracity can be open to question.

Where is the list of all clubs as that just shows 10? So I think Utd, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, rs are missing and 4 other clubs who I can't think of off the top of my head.

Don't know mate. But it's fair assumption to compare us with the teams on the list then someone like Man Utd with 76.000 stadium or Arsenal with expensive ticket-prices. Both clubs make more than £100m per season on ticket sales.

You can read the whole thing here on his Everton thread:

If there is one club you want to jointly defend this with it’s Man City.

FFP is a cartel designed to protect the financial interests of the the Scab clubs.

When did they accept anything?

Well the PL signed off the accounts last year, and did not raise concerns. They also re-enforced this in the summer meeting with clubs (I have that on pretty decent authority). Up until 20/21 the accounts were accepted, with the agreed revisions, as being under £105m. There can be some question about whether they were right to do that, but they definitely did it.

I'm not sure that article is up to much

The Premier League can't act without EVIDENCE

They were given the evidence by Everton Football Club on 01 March 2023 when the club handed over the accounts and projections for T+1 T+2
