this is what football is all about, and has always been about, its just the modern media pushing that playing more than one game a week means performance will drop, generally to protect any of the media darlings "unfortunate" enough to play in the European Trophy of Punishment.

Didnt they used to have squads of like 14-16 in the 80s and this was when people actually cared about anything other than one tournament which most teams who play in it will literally only ever "qualify" for anyway? and even then only 5-6 teams from this country will ever get to play in it...

Oh come on, I played 6 a side 3 times a week for a year straight...theyll be fine...though my knee did explode a couple of months back and now I cant play for a year..happy days

I hope the team we put out for the league cup game is the u21's and hibbert, really the least of our worries it is a useless tournament for us and will only be detrimental.

I hope the "starting 11" doesn't even travel to that game and just stays in liverpool for the rest. If we did that other than west brom there wouldn't even be any travelling to do.

Couldn't disagree more. Great chance of winning a trophy before March.

We can't play the same 11 every game, unfortunately I think the Swansea cup game will be the lowest priority. It would be good to see Besic and Atsu, even Ledson and Galloway. We might also have Oviedo and Gibson back by then too, so our cup team aint bad.

It's no longer between either our first 11 or U21s, we have a big squad now, there will be lot of rotations without having to play the "kids"

More games = more injuries. The "jaded" factor we all know and cheated our way out of in FM is a part of it but mainly its that this many more games will (given a normal distribution) result in more injuries. So if you play a lot of backups and rotate you mitigate that risk (it also has benefits in terms of giving fringe players more playing time to prove themselves and gives players an opportunity to be rewarded for good work in training with some actual game time).

Lots of benefits to rotation that can help you win trophies; it's not all sacrificing results in one comp to save yourself for another.

Guys..... I would be lying if I didn't say I was a little worried about this many matches for us in that short amount of time.

    Liverpool

I know Roberto is going to take the Europa league as serious as possible as he should. I just hope it doesn't affect the EPL or cup games. I also do not want tiredness to be an excuse when these run of games happens. One team has to win it all in either Europa League, League Cup, etc. and they deal with balancing all these games also.

Not being a negative Nancy but just a little worried. Hopefully, the squad can stay healthy. COYB!

We'll win all 5 and then coincidentally win the last game 5 zip.

Can't wait. This international break is doing my head in. So boss that we're back in European competition finally.

Also to be as pedantic as possible it's 15 days.

We need a few games, can only help us sort out the problems. As for the legue cup, stongest team we can please, we can rest a few against Wolfsburg.

If it was anything but the derby, I'd say put whatever team you want out for the LC. But think of the morale boost from finally winning an away derby.

It's a tournament that we should have paid more attention to in the past but imagine having FA cup games, capital cup games, europa league games and the league all at the same time

I "imagine" it all the time.

In fact I dream about it. I fantasise about it.

EFC fighting on all fronts come the business end of the season.

What's the matter with some people on here......it is only the first week of September and some guys are already fretting over a hypothetical scenario where our club could be involved in all manner of exciting, meaningful games come spring and worrying about us sending out a team strong enough to win sommat.

Have we really raised a beaten generation of Evertonians?

Bring it on, say I ;)
