Football Is Dead

No brighton players complained, but you thought that was a penalty.

He’s just too cool for school our Keiran, sees the bigger picture without the blue tinted glasses we’re all wearing. We see the crescent, he sees the whole of the moon.

I'd chop off my little finger if it meant Liverpool not winning the title. Despite that, no, my view on this has absolutely nothing to do with how good Liverpool are or how bad Everton are.

Officiating has always been terrible, but at least it didn't disrupt play to this degree, so you could still enjoy the game and be able to say "maybe it was just a mistake."

But now, it's no mistake. That isn't human error tonight - that is deliberate. It took one view of that replay for me, knowing the rules (see above), to know without doubt that was a penalty. No bias, I routinely laugh off Everton claims for pens etc. as 'fanboyism' - no, objectively, that's a penalty by definition. Nobody can tell me any different. There's no fairness in the officiating, no consistency, no accountability, nothing. Just fans of the game getting shafted week after week.

All fair mate. To go against what I said myself in my post, the worst thing about VAR is that it hasn’t actually improved anything. So we’ve gone from poor and inconsistent officiating to something even worse which should not have been possible given how simple in theory implementing it should have been. I will say that the biggest issue is that the men operating it in the VAR centre are fellow officials, meaning they are incompetent and also probably trying to stop their mates on the pitch from looking bad. VAR needs stone cold objective arbiters operating it. That’s the only way it will work.

My only other defence of VAR is that Pandora’s box has now been opened and I think it’s hard to go backwards. What do I mean by this? Well let’s just say a decision went against us that a referee simply didn’t see- maybe a goal that was offside that relegated us (hypothetical of course). Or we’re in a game where a win seals top 4. There’s a handball on the line denying us a goal and which should have given us a penalty. It’s clear as day but the ref hasn’t seen it. Can we really go back to a time where we just have to accept those mistakes? I know VAR in its current form isn’t doing us any favours but I think scrapping it entirely is impossible.

Overall my comments regarding Liverpool tie in to a worrying sense of apathy and despair which I’ve felt growing this season- something which has definitely been compounded by VAR of course. I guess at this moment there really is nothing at all to like about Everton or football in general. How quickly that can change is anybody’s guess.

Giving decisions like that was the whole point VAR was brought in. Martin Atkinson is an absolute clown but he can't see decisions like that so it is up to the VAR official to do his freaking job. I have no qualms with VAR as a concept, but I guess we should have seen this coming when the absolutely incompent officials we have already in this country were tasked with running it.

It was an absolute stonewall penalty, an absolute disgrace.
Two penalties actually

walks a higher plain doesn't he @Keiran heres a quick update

Keirans beliefs
Jacko is not a peado
the RS have never had a favourable decison
Racism doesn't exist
OJ was innocent
The brighton penalty was the right decison (against Everton)
Alli handball wasn't a penalty (against Everton)
Spurs should have had a penalty (aganist Everton)

Its quite a hitlist thus far

Unfortunately the refs are just an absolute joke in this league so VAR will never work so just get rid of it. I am the same, proper done with football. Barely watched it apart from us this season.

lol Again, didn’t say any of those things but sure, let’s remember it your way.

FYI, it’s “paedo” if you’re alluding to a paedophile. Just seen you spell that one wrong a few times now mate. No need to thank me.
