Football italia

Used to watch Football Italia religiously. A couple of years back I listened to an interview with James Richardson about how the show came about and it was a proper mish mash of not knowing what they were doing and him just happening to be there in another capacity and being chucked into the presenting, or something like that.

Was an Inter fan and then when Ronaldo joined that just upped the supporting.

C4 had some great programming in that era which just adds to the nostalgia, Transworld Sport, Kabaddi, GAA. Then turn over for football focus, Saturday morning before heading to the football was always a great couple of hours.

On a personal level, we also always had regulated pre-match grub, before which usually consisted of burgers in pita, bacon sarnies or bagels. Very good times indeed :)

Football italia on Channel 4 was class, absolute typical the very 1st ever Live game on channel 4 i missed as i was dragged away to do a bike ride in the 90s ended up the 3-3 draw between Sampdoria and Lazio, though i was only 12 or 13 or something and i went mad when i came back and found out i missed that game lol

I agree, I don't really have a team I'm mad about in Italy. Always liked Sampdoria and Inter but hard to warm to Juve. Not a big Milan fan due to their 90s dominance.
The gung ho Fiorentina team of Batistuta another favourite.
I liked fiorentina too, something about them, batistuta was a monster, plus they had Edmundo at one point who had skills for days but a complete maverick ? think there was a story about him getting a monkey drunk back in Brazil ?

I studied in Rome for my final year as an undergrad. One week Lazio and the next Roma in 96-97.

Brilliant. 40p at the student canteen then hop on the bus (no one bought a ticket) and then a few quid for a dodgy ticket and in. Preferred Lazio as they played nicer football.

Derbies were fun. Flares flying a couple of feet over your head. Sat in the Lazio away end when Roma scored and some halfwit jumped to celebrate- people were zooming in from all over to give him a kicking. Last minute equaliser was a scene.

One thing Roma and Lazio fans agreed with was that the rs were subhuman rats. Both sides loathed them. No idea if it's like that now. Probably have to buy a real ticket that wasn't printed using a potato and ink pad as well nowadays.
What a great year that must of been . serie A still in its heyday then and lazio with serious cash under Cragnotti. slightly just before both sides won titles

I hate Fiorentina for the way our fans were treated in 2008 while they rolled out the red carpet for the rats across the park 2 years later . Even taking the plastic screening off the away end for them .

that soured my liking of them during the Batistuta and Rui Costa era . Nice kit though

Oh yeah forgot about that , jovetic tore them apart didn’t he ?

Batistuta and Rui Costa was some combo , loved batistuta’s goals against Man U and arsenal, most powerful shot before Adriano came along ha

What a waste of a talent Adriano turned out to be . he couldn’t get over his fathers death . shame

Anyone nostalgic about serie A from the past should go through the episodes of this podcast .

Didn't they have an NBA highlights show too? NBA 24/7 or something? I'm sure that's where I first heard the Chemical Brothers on one of the round up bits.
