My mum worked for Channel 4 back then and did all the TV overlays etc for it, I used to go in to channel 4 studios in London with her and watch the entire thing being broadcast. My main memory of it is my mum thinking Giuseppe Signori was fit and live TV being crazy stressful for all involved.

That must have been a pretty exciting experience.

I echo these thoughts. Football Italia changed my entire perspective on football and travel to Europe. Seen about 15 games in Italy to date. Always a good atmosphere and experience.
It's good to see Juventus finally knocked off their perch imo. The same team winning the league very year, doesn't do anyone any good. It's nice to see both the Milan teams, finally getting their act together.

I agree, I don't really have a team I'm mad about in Italy. Always liked Sampdoria and Inter but hard to warm to Juve. Not a big Milan fan due to their 90s dominance.
The gung ho Fiorentina team of Batistuta another favourite.

Who else misses it ? And wishes channel 4 would show Italian football again like the good old days?!?!

Also what was your favourite moments in the show, who was your team and favourite players in a glorious period for Italian football and when the worlds best players showed their skills in serie a?
Different days. Back then Serie A was the best league in the world. Now it is probably the fourth best.

People in the UK tend to remember the James Richardson years - and they were great - but I favour the Maradona years when Sky Channel broadcast Italian Football on a Monday night with commentary by Martin Tyler. This was in 1986/87 and Sky Channel - the precursor to the modern Sky - was broadcast from the Netherlands on cable TV in Ireland. Maradona at Napoli, Platini at Juventus, Rummenigge at Inter, Boniek at Roma... wonderful players. Goals were at a premium, where 1-0 was a typical result among a plethora of 0-0s. To me, peak football.

Interesting you say that, I always felt arrigo Sachi changed Italian football massively during that late 80s period with the more attacking total football approach, which other sides then started to become more attacking , capello though was still ultra conservative. As was trappatoni. Nearly sure capello won serie a with Milan and only scored something like 40 goals in the league . Boring af ?
