Italians can be nuts like, but they have nothing on the Turks when it comes to football.lol
At a much smaller level in terms of numbers when Rovers play Bohs they are some of the biggest Garda policing exercises of the year. My nephew is a traffic cop and it really is all hands on deck. There was dislike in the previous decades but it is now really nasty.

I still would love to get to a Lazio Roma derby - on my bucket list. It would be Curva Nord for me with my Dubs jersey on

What's the cause of the Rovers and Bohs hatred getting out of hand? Is it just a tribal north side and south side thing, or maybe a younger more nastier element of supporters are emerging as well.

Maybe it's because some Bohs fans, resent the fact that Shamrock Rovers are by far Irish footballs most successful club? It's probably a combination of all that, and other factors as well.

Correct mate. In the 70s and 80s there was a tension alright, We are very much southside Club and we used to march across the bridge up O Connell Street to Dalyer. Never saw any violence though.

We have lots of fans on the northside.

Now it has got to violence on the DART to Tallaght and vitriol against former Bohs player and their partners. Just unacceptable.

I think there may be an element of resentment by others supporters of our recent success and yes it is the younger element

We went to Roma v Lazio around 2009, absolute crazy atmosphere with all the flags and flares, the game was stopped for about 15 minutes in the first half because of running battles between the Ultras, Roma then proceeded to score the winner with a couple of minutes to go to kick it all off again, proper sketchy walk back to the centre after it with cars ablaze and bizzie vans flying round everywhere, boss experience though. I've also been to a couple of Milan derbies which are slightly more tranquil than the Rome one.

I studied in Rome for my final year as an undergrad. One week Lazio and the next Roma in 96-97.

Brilliant. 40p at the student canteen then hop on the bus (no one bought a ticket) and then a few quid for a dodgy ticket and in. Preferred Lazio as they played nicer football.

Derbies were fun. Flares flying a couple of feet over your head. Sat in the Lazio away end when Roma scored and some halfwit jumped to celebrate- people were zooming in from all over to give him a kicking. Last minute equaliser was a scene.

One thing Roma and Lazio fans agreed with was that the rs were subhuman rats. Both sides loathed them. No idea if it's like that now. Probably have to buy a real ticket that wasn't printed using a potato and ink pad as well nowadays.

I studied a semester in Pisa in 2001 and there were lots who hated them there too from what I remember

I have great memories of watching the live game on a Sunday afternoon, and of course the highlights show. It did move to Bravo, but when Football Italia left Channel Four it just wasn't the same for some reason.

Sampdoria used to be my favourite Italian team because i liked the shirt, but my interest in Italian football trailed off sometime around the mid noughties.

Still though i have great memories of that program, and simpler days when there was no stress no worries and no covid either.:)
I echo these thoughts. Football Italia changed my entire perspective on football and travel to Europe. Seen about 15 games in Italy to date. Always a good atmosphere and experience.

Went to Roma vs Napoli a few years ago, definitely did need a proper ticket and nearly didn't get in due to some info on it not matching my ID! From that experience can only imagine what the Rome derby would be like.

But yeah they hate the rs there, funnily enough a couple of players on the pitch that day have ended up at mordor
