Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

Love this thread @The Penalty Box Dancer just wondering how is our current Under 23 boss, Unsworth and Director of Football Brands doing?

Unsworth left his role as U23's manager in 2023 and became a first team coach where he still is today. The U23's is managed by Matt Ritchie with John Ebbrell as assistant.

Brands is still with Everton. Managed to get £51M for Baningime and £12M for Jonjo Kenny over the years. Brought in Erling Haaland for £55M from Leipzig in 2025 but he's only ever managed a maximum of 16 goals in a season for Everton.

It's so close yet so far, you lost me at £12m for Kenny!

=Luton result.webp

It was 2nd against 3rd at Kenilworth Road. Luton were enjoying their football after promotion and will be determined to deter a strong Fylde side led by Colm Goode up top. Ferguson told the fans to be patient with Goode as he was adjusting to the football league and will be dominant once he gets going. Euan Henderson took down Swann just on the edge of the box inside the first minute and the Luton players were convinced it was inside the box. The referee was hesitant making his decision but fortunately for Fylde awarded the free-kick. Henderson picked up an early yellow. The free-kick came to nothing hitting the side netting. Bytheway nicked the ball from Powell and played it forward to Goode, he knocked it back to Wilson who played in Hutson but his shot went over the bar. Fylde gave away a dangerous free-kick just outside the box, Joe Powell fancied it and beat the wall and Jimmy Dube to make it 1-0 to the home side. Fylde kicked off, the ball was played back to Gibson, he was put under pressure so he played it back to Dube, his first touch ran away from him and Ryan Wright stole it and slotted to make it 2-0! What an unbelievable error from Jimmy Dube. Ferguson changed it on 48 minutes bringing on Declan Marshall for Christian Hutson. There was another error and this time John Jones took the throw in inside his own half to Feeney but it was cut out by Ryan Wright and he squared it for Cooke to make it 3-0. Bytheway ran forward unopposed on 53 minutes, he broke into the box and laid it off for Henderson to pull a goal back. It was all Fylde now and Carey was on for Goode and he was leading the line well. Henderson played it to Wilson who does what he does best and blasted a shot from outside the box to make it 3-2 on 75 minutes! Fylde with the chance to make a comeback! Morton took the throw on 84 minutes and found Bytheway who held the ball up well. He released to Wilson and Wilson found John Jones screaming for it on the edge of the box, the ball was rolled to him and he blasted it with his left foot into the bottom corner! 3-3! What a strike! Fylde have levelled it! The game went into stoppage time but Luton defended well to keep Fylde out and both teams take a point. What an excellent comeback from The Coasters!

DF: We paid the price for the mistakes we made dilly-dallying on the ball. Luton are a very good team and I said they will cause problems. Second half after going 3-0 down, we got the goal straight away and our heads were up then. When we play like that we are a hard team to stop. We just have to do it more often. On the bright side we are still unbeaten and go home with a point. We just have to keep winning our home games.

Jones looked up and hit a long ball forward on 18 minutes, Carey beat the last defender and slotted to make it 2-0! Great start here for Fylde! Wisdom and Wilson were linking up well in the first half but Henderson was having a quiet game. Carey was on for his hat-trick and when Jones played the free-kick into the box he got away from his man to get his foot round the ball but the keeper done well to keep his shot out. Joe Donnelly replaced Euan Henderson with just over 15 minutes to go. Peterborough had a corner on 89 minutes and nobody could get the ball clear, Cook got his head to it, Feeney intercepted but played it towards goal, Morton tried to clear but reacted late and it bounced off his shin and went in. Danny Rose urged his team forward in stoppage time and the long ball tactic was making Fylde nervous putting the ball out of play whenever they took control of it. The whistle went and after being largely dominant, Fylde were victorious but it was a nervous finish.

Josh Ferguson was back from injury and he played behind Russell Carey with Henderson and Bytheway in support on the flanks. It was Fylde trying to create the opening in the first half, they came down the left with Henderson playing it to Wilson, he had a look up and tried to find Carey in the box but it came back to him. Wilson stopped on the ball and played it left to John Jones who cut inside on his right and slotted it low into the bottom corner! 1-0 on 42 minutes! The keeper had no chance! Can Fylde find the second to make this result secure? John Jones took the corner sending it into the box and Joe Chapman handballed it, the referee gave the penalty! It's usually Euan Henderson who takes the kicks, will he be on this one? Euan Henderson will be taking this penalty kick. He keeps it low putting it into the bottom left corner, 2-0! Richard Moore and Tyrone O'Neill were on for Fylde replacing Mick Wisdom and Russell Carey. It's a good comfortable home win for Fylde, they were never under any threat and the win keeps them within a point of Rochdale.

DF: It's a good result for us, we looked assured and the team played well together. I gave young 18 year old Richard Moore a go towards the end just to give him some minutes and I'm happy with how he went about it.

Jimmy Dube was back from representing Zimbabwe in the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers. Mick Wisdom seemed a bit up for this one and found himself booked early on. Wilson carried the ball out of midfield and played it wide to bring in Bytheway, her cut inside and squared it for Josh Ferguson and his shot stung the hands of the keeper from outside the box. John Jones was excellent at winning the ball back and getting it wide to the creative players but still could not find the opening. Bradford played the ball forward and Morton headed clear. Sam Armstrong picked it up and played it to Crichlow, he took the shot and it deflected off Feeney to beat Dube making it 1-0 on 36 minutes. Fylde responded well, Mick Wisdom ran forward but his shot was blocked. Vince Bytheway picked up the loose ball, beat the full back and drilled it low to level the score! Fylde started the second half brightly, Bytheway was fouled just outside the box and John Jones was confident but he put it just over from 20 yards. The midfield was winning the ball well and Wilson played it to Josh Ferguson who was thinking about the shot but he played a deft through ball for Russell Carey and he slotted to make it 2-1! Patrick Uttridge replaced Mick Wisdom on 72 minutes with Wisdom on a booking but he had a good game. Richard Macrae replaced Josh Ferguson and played in front of the defence. Bradford went three up front in stoppage time to find the equaliser. Bytheway kept the ball well in the final third then tried a shot which the keeper done well to keep out. It was three points for Fylde as they keep marching on unbeaten this season.

DF: We've got to perform better as there are teams that would really put us to the sword in this league. We reacted well to going a goal down with an instant reply and then finding the winner in the second half. A win's a win and we go top of the table. The aim is for us to stay there.

The heavy rain not helping Dube's vision. Frank Obi whipped in the free-kick on 49 minutes and the ball hit the bar, the rebound fell to Swaby-Neavin who stretched to meet it and made it 2-0. AFC Fylde vs MK Dons
18th September 2032

=MK Dons result.webp

After the defeat to Chesterfield, Duncan Ferguson reminded the fans that the best was still yet to come and the team will get better as the season progresses. Young midfielder Richard Moore was a loan target for Oxford United who were top of the National League and could be deemed a good option for the youngster. The first half played out and we could only hope for a better match in the second half. Fylde were pressing well and winning the ball back, MK Dons were happy to sit back and allow Fylde to slip up or take the ball on the touch. Morton found Hutson with the throw and he knocked it back to Morton who crossed into the box, Carey couldn't control it and Bytheway came storming in to strike the loose ball but the keeper done well to push it out. Stockbridge and Wisdom came on for Morton and Wilson. Colm Goode replaced Russell Carey with less than ten minutes to go. Goode seemed to be struggling to settle at Mill Farm and could not get into the match in the final ten minutes.

DF: I'm not concerned about Goode's performance, he hasn't played enough yet for me to make judgement as a senior professional but I know there is quality in there still to come. The players will get it right, we just aren't shooting on instinct and overthinking it. We will be sitting down next week and masking sure have better preparation before we go to Bolton at the weekend. If we prepare right we can come away with the points.

RICHARD MOORE JOINS OXFORD UNITED ON LOAN

Richard Moore.webp

DF: It'll do him good, he'll get more game time than what he is likely to get here this season and in four months we can assess his progress and decide where we see him for the second half of the season.

LOAN UPDATE

23 year old Michael Tate has played 10 games for Tranmere and scored 6 goals and claimed 3 assists. The striker was impressive recently against Salford City bagging his first career hat-trick.

Richard Moore made his debut for Oxford United within days of signing and was instrumental in a 3-0 win over Boston United. The midfielder got an assist and finished the match with 93% pass completion.

Trust Rico Mooresy to look like 'kin Iniesta once we stick him out on loan

Between Tato and Rico, I've got a feeling Dunco has lost the plotto!

On a side note, I'd have loved to have seen Ruud Gullit boss the midfield with his swanky Lotto boots on. They were prime 80's menswear them. I used to take the studs out of mine and go night club in them. Called myself Rude Gillet the master fillet.
