Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

Cheltenham Town vs AFC Fylde
6th April 2041

=Cheltenham result.png

Six games to go and still the league title to be secured, Fylde were not prepared to let it slip out of their hands with Ferguson sticking to a strong lineup. Ron Patterson was back in midfield next to James Gould and Patrick Craddock started on the right. Tommy Smyth was back from injury and was named on the bench. 18 seconds after coming back from another suspension, Ron Patterson picked up a yellow card which he could only smile about in disbelief to the referee. Emeka Bala picked up an injury on 34 minutes and had to go off, he was replaced by Luke Williams. Not a lot of clear chances for Fylde inside the first half. Tommy Smyth made his return to action for the last 30 minutes. A dull afternoon finally came to life on 85 minutes when Luke Williams played a fantastic ball into the box, Craddock kept it in play and his shot from a tight angle clipped the post and went in! Tommy Smyth went down injured in stoppage time clutching his knee so that will be one to monitor. It wasn't much of a spectacle but it's a win for Fylde and they have the title in close grasp now!

Fylde can clinch the title today at The Valley and what an achievement it will be! Ferguson has changed the mindset of all his players and instilled a winning mentality once again. The sad news was John Armah will miss the rest of the season through injury and may have played his last game for Fylde. It is a shame he cannot play in a title decider after his contribution this season. Charlton could potentially be close to sealing a play-off place and could be returning to The Championship after a 20 year absence. Zach Winstanley traveled with the squad to Charlton as he stayed in the manager's plans. Whether he can be called upon this afternoon remains to be seen. Emeka Bala gave away possession and Rouse came forward, Richardson's slide tackle was off and Rouse glided past him, Charlton had two over and it was played to Sarpong-Amamoo on the left and as he pulled the trigger, Jay Preece took the ball away from him, great tackle. Ron Patterson picked up a booking on 31 minutes and three minutes later went in behind on Burns, the Fylde players pleaded with the referee but he thought it deserved a yellow card and Patterson was off. Tommy Smyth was brought on with 35 minutes to go replacing John Hutchinson, he was on the pitch for two minutes and already got himself booked. Lyons-Mayman got the ball out wide to Bala, first real chance for Fylde. The ball came in and Lyons-Mayman missed the header, it fell to Craddock and his shot was pushed away, Gould followed up and his effort was just wide. Hull were level with Bury so as it stood, Fylde will be crowned champions. Seconds remained and the fans waited patiently. The whistle was blown and the trophy was theirs! Fylde - League One Champions 2040/41! They have won it for a second time! What a fantastic season for The Coasters! Duncan Ferguson was on the pitch at The Valley with all his players and coaching staff! He has done it again!

Duncan, you are now officially League One Champions!

DF: It's a great honour, to come all this way after all our hard work, these lads have done themselves proud! They gritted their teeth and remained professional throughout the season, at times it didn't look in doubt and they picked up result after result to ensure we sealed the title as early as possible!

What are your plans for The Championship? Are we going to see changes?

DF: With any promotion, there comes change. That is football and we have to be going into the new season as strong as we can. I haven't spoke to the chairman yet about the plan and the transfer budget, that's one for the end of the season. We still have four games to play and I want to see the same professionalism and the same level of performance. Players need to know that we still have our eyes on them and next season there are places available. I hope they can play with a little bit of freedom and relax a little but with us on 95 points, I want to break the 100 point mark. The last time we won this league, we done it on 85 points. I believe the record is 105 points held by Hull City, we have four game to beat it!

I'm sure Conor Coady will have something to say about that when you play his Bury team next week!

DF: He can say all he wants, nah I'm just kidding, he has a chance to make the play-offs and will be well up for it next week. As a player he led by example so as a manager he is no different and I hope he can finish the season strongly.

AFC Fylde vs Bury
19th April 2041

=Bury result.png

The Fylde faithful packed out the stadium for the first home game since clinching the title. The noise was electric inside Mill Farm and the Bury players gave Fylde the guard of honour as they entered the pitch to fireworks and a cocophany of sound. Ferguson went with a change and gave Zach Winstanley a start up top. Ben Haley and Matty Chapman both started at the back and Stuart Greene was in midfield. Both sides were cancelling each other out in the early exchanges and both doing a good job defensively. Tommy Smyth had a chance from the free-kick 20 yards out, his shot hit the top of the wall and deflected past the keeper to make it 1-0 at the start of the second half! He got a bit of luck that he needed! 63 minutes was the end of Winstanley's game and he was replaced by Lyons-Mayman. Bury were gifted an easy equaliser on 85 minutes when Agard's free-kick bounced through the defence and McKay only had to tuck it away to make it 1-1. Preece played it to Craddock down the right on 87 minutes, he cut it back to Lyons-Mayman inaside the box and he restored Fylde's lead! Bury had a last chance with a free-kick but it was cleared to safety by Bala and that was it! Fylde get the win!

AFC Fylde vs Notts County

=Notts County result.png

A win today would tip Fylde over the 100 point mark on to 101 and Fylde are also on the verge of beating the most league wins in a League One season of 32. Dale Alexander came in at Left Back for Fylde and the young starlet Elliot Richardson partnered Andreas Chatziaros at the back. Fylde waited until 41 minutes to get their first goal when Hutchinson took the corner and Lyons-Mayman headed in at the far post to keep him at the top of the league goalscorers! That's number 32! Aiden Butts was in good form since returning between the sticks in recent games, making two good saves from free-kicks in the first half. James Gould came on for Tommy Smyth and got on the scoresheet when he hit a nice right footed shot from outside the box! It's another win for Fylde as they look to close in on the record points total in a League One season!

Hull City vs AFC Fylde
27th April 2041

=Hull result.png

It was the penultimate game of the season and a win would see Hull City promoted. Fylde will still go out to win the game despite what's at stake for Hull as they look to take maximum points this season. Craddock made a great run on 35 minutes into the box, Hutchinson spotted the run and played a great ball into his path but Hawkes came across and took him out, penalty! Tommy Smyth stepped up confidently but the keeper stood his ground and denied him! John Hutchinson was doing well as the architect but the match remained goalless at half-time. Hull were battling in the second half to find that goal to win the game and Fylde could only sit back and defend, which they did very well. Beattie gave the ball away and Craddock capitalised on the mistake and put it on a plate for Hutchinson to tap in his 6th goal of the season and keep Fylde on target for a record points total! Fylde were doing a good job of keeping the ball in the closing minutes. Fylde win once again and Hull City will have to wait until the final day of the season to decide their fate as Bury were only three points behind.

DF: One win and we can secure the record points total. We've now got the record of most wins in a season with 33. This team deserve it and many have said it's the best League One side in history and we want to go into The Championship with a point to prove that we can stay there. Hutchinson was brilliant today and he's someone we'll need on top of his game next season.

=Southend result.png

Final day of the season was here. Fylde were on target for a new record points total. Southend were comfortably mid-table so not a lot to play for here. Luke Wiliams came in on the left as Emeka Bala was suffering with a knock. With the season almost over, it will be interesting to see who takes the player of the season for Fylde with so many players having a great season. Aiden Butts made a contribution on 3 minutes when his long kick upfield fell perfectly to Lyons-Mayman but he was tackled, Craddock never gave up on it and got into the area with the ball at his feet and slotted it past the keeper, 1-0! Elliot Richardson done a great job at the back keeping Smith out. What a breakthrough season he has had at Fylde and still only 18. Fylde were on top and their movement was something else, it looks like some new drills they have been working on in training and Tommy Smyth's movement was a joy to behold. Aien Butts made two fantastic saves from Evans who was through on goal on two occasions in the second half. Butts found Lyons-Mayman who flicked it on to Craddock, he passed inside to Smyth and he helped it on to Bala on the left, he crossed in and Smyth was there to head in the second! 15 minutes to go and that should be it! Zach Winstanley was brought on for the last 13 minutes replacing Lyons-Mayman who went off to a standing ovation. 32 league goals this season! Adams went for goal from long range and Butts done magnificent again tipping it over. The away fans were in great voice as they sang the names of their heroes and the whistle was blown one last time on the League One season with Fylde finishing on 107 points setting a new league record!

Duncan, what a performance today to finish the season and end on a high. Your team never let up and they continued on and on putting teams to the sword even after winning the title, just how do you do it?

DF: We have had this quality, this talent and this work ethic within this squad and it just needed bringing out. We recruited really well in the summer and brought in some good experience as well as players who are extremely talented and hungry. We all seen it for ourselves early on and how the players clicked instantly. We started rhe season unbeaten in the first 8 and it set us uip nicely. We won 34 times in the league this season, losing 7. It was an impecable season and at times I thought the squad players would struggle but they came in when required and they tore it apart! We have a great collective here and I know I'm going to lose some players whether that be loan or contracts but if we can keep the core players and rebuild once again, we can have a good season in The Championship.
