It's a results business correct and I think Benitez's problem was he was more focused on sorting the off the field matters which ultimately seen a drop in performances on the pitch.

The performances and results were fine until we lost about 8-9 players to injury then he seemed to be focusing on the medical/recruitment departments which started to see on the field suffer as a result.

He rightfully lost his job but I think he's laid the foundations for Frankel to get results and push us on.

The fact Benitez had to even waste his time trying to sort off the field shenanigans out shows how poorly run the club is/was in terms of the Chairman/DOF. He should have been able to solely focus on the training ground as any manager should.
I agree with this, he tried to take too big a job on and failed as a result. There had to be some sign of hope though on the pitch, something that bought him time do do all the off pitch elements. If he had turned some of those losses into draws he would still be here, our points total would have been nowhere near the bottom , even if mid table.

There is a huge element of what if with benitez but he effectively sacked himself with the results. Fans will give a manager time to get things right, just look at the time Silva got despite a bad run in his first season.

Sure as night follows day we'll see a crisis for Lampard even before the end of this season. That's because the club runs on a short term cycle. It's baked into the outlook of fans now that any loss of form is a potential sacking offence. The expectation levels are daft for a club that's...well...rubbish, not to put too fine a point on it.

We are poorly governed, have a load of ex-players who were 'kin rubbish themselves by and large who stink the gaff out day in day out with their medicocrity, we have a below average squad of PL players...but the fans wont accept we have slipped out of that top 5th to 8th bracket we were in for ages before Moshiri arrived....in fact they still think we should be cracking the top 4.

The support of this club needs to fully accept we are absolute 'kin tosh as a football club at EVERY level. Be humble and dont expect anything other than at best mid-table (10th to 14th) for the next few seasons.

If they do, we might - just MIGHT - get into that new stadium as a PL organisation. If they dont, we are finished.
Utter rubbish Dave. 10th to 14th for a few seasons? For a club our size with the right manager we will be part of the higher mix.
I supported Benitez being given time as well but to say our position is cemented because of the club is rubbish. Much money has been spent but in the wrong way so you can't say we don't have the backing.
Hopefully Moshiri will give Frank and his team the time. If our new midfield works out we will see a big improvement.
You are too negative and nobody can truly predict anything

lol lol lol

"Stake holder" buying a ticket.

Heaven preserve us from the nu-fan.
You’re an irrelevant voice.

I don’t get to the match anywhere near as much as I’d like. So that’s also true of me.

You can cry about match-going fans as much as you like. But they change things. The players respond to them, the board responds to them.

I know you don’t see any of that, and I also know that energy spent on you is energy tipped down the drain.

So I’m off to enjoy my Sunday. You carry on.

Benitez is a better manager than what we saw here he even did better with a much poorer Newcastle squad results speaking.

Ultimately he tried to change the culture/weed out the underpeformers in the backroom and the job became too big.

But from his sacrifice (some may say noble) Lampard doesn't have to deal with Donachie killing 3-4 players in training every week or Brands wasting millions on tat not suited to the physical demands of this league.

Long term it benefits us and leaves a much stronger foundation than say Martinez or Koemans tenures did.

Liked that interview. Said all the right things. Felt like Martinez in his first year. Positivity after Moyes dumbing down expectations for so long. Just what was needed to lift the place. Hopefully there is more substance to him than Martinez. Obviously it’s only one game though

Seemed genuinely excited about Gordon. If the young kids are good enough they’ll get a chance it looks like. Think most of us would like 2 or 3 young local lads in the team in an ideal world.

Feels like we stumbled into Lampard. He appeared to be third choice behind Martinez and Pereira unbelievably. The fans clearly, and quite rightly, stopped Periera getting the job. The board don’t seem to have a clue what is required to make the team relevant again.

Hope it’s the bit of luck we need. We definitely deserve it

….have you ever thought of taking up knitting?

Once Everton has touched you, nothing will be the same. Super Frank showing exactly what it means to be the Manager of Everton. We have not had this sort of emotion and passion in a Manager for a very long time.

The performances under Benitez were never 'fine' and that's why when the injuries did hit, we had nothing to fall back on.
What's crazy too is that out of the 5 measley games we won, 3 of them we had to mount a comeback because his intial tactics were so flawed and passive. Being able to overcome a deficit is laudable but when over half of your games won involve scrambling to reclaim the lead it's clear the setup was inept. I think Frank's approach will allow us to establish control over the game , where Benitez negative style was so reactive.

He was shocking

We have some decent players, still, not as many as we need but we need to play to our strengths and focus far more on what we can do to the opposition in a game. Be positive and not strangle the players in a headlock of constant fear and inferiority.

The pendulum has swung just a little too much in recent times such that you can see the panic and the tension. That's what I want Lampard to address and yesterday was a good start. We have no reason to stand off teams outside the top four, especially at home, and we'll gain and not lose points with a less conservative approach.

I get we are not laden with quality but I don't accept the team can't string passes and moves together in a coherent way. The ball is not something to be afraid of and I think the players have forgotten that, to an extent it's been coached out of them. Dele and VDB will be a help in this regard also.
