Such an unbalanced, crap squad. Struggle to see how Frank will turn it around without 3 in midfield. If he plays the same formation consistently, we are doomed.

I agree he needs to start with a 433 from now on we need that protection of the back four and clarity for the defence. A midfield two hasn't worked all season playing Brentford who let us play around them lulled us into a false sense of security. Leeds will be pressing us like hell too we need Allan /VDB / Alli likely as a three..

I can only think he's trying to justify his unwavering support of tapastits when it was all going to hell, by saying "we" will all want Frank out next week if we get beat - when it's just simply not the case?!

I have given up trying to figure citrus out tbh, I just laugh at many of his posts now and you should too mate - embrace the madness.

The people who blamed Benitez for the terrible first half of the season are the same people defending FL and blaming today's awful performance on the squad. No, I'm not a Benitez apologist. He was a horrific appointment, but I'm not convinced on FL either. His was a rushed and uninspired hire. Maybe he turns out great, but as bad as the squad is (and yes, they deserve plenty of blame), let's please not give Lampard a pass because he's new. He was hired to come in and do a job and keep this club up. His first step toward doing that has ended in failure, plain and simple. But hopefully he will be successful in the following 17 steps toward that objective. We'll see.

There's a common factor the players. But Benitez had a larger sample size of failure.

Made a mistake with putting Alli on for Gray. It should have been Dom and Richy into the role Gray was playing in or Van de Beek to plug into midfield and go 352

He did the issue is do we know how fit Dom is? I am suspecting he didn't want to risk him. VDB should have come on for me go 433, we need to set up like that for me it's the best formation to give us a bit more solidity three at the back won't work long term when our CBS aren't very good on the ball.

When people were saying this squad was too good to go down in November I questioned that. And I remember someone saying that this squad was too good to get beaten by Norwich. Then Benitez sold our only good player to Villa.

It was always going to be an almost impossible job to keep this squad in the Premier League. Lampard deserves huge credit for taking this job on.

Sadly I’m beginning to agree. It breaks my heart to say it but I can’t see how we stay up at this point. I know we did the impossible 28 years ago at Goodison against Wimbledon, but those were different times with different fans.

Our squad was a desperately poor one before Benitez came in, but the sales of James Rodriguez and Lucas Digne have left us with literally no quality players.

And the mad thing is it’s not the players’ fault. I actually see a lot of effort from then right now. We’re the 8th best in the league in terms of the number of miles run. The quality simply isn’t there - that’s the bottom line.

The defence isn't good enough we have injury prone players and we don't have leaders we don't have a will to fight, we knew all these things before tonight. The loss was sadly predictable. What Lampard has to ask himself is who can he rely on regardless of their age and play them, no more second chances for Gomes, Holgate, Coleman they cannot do it.

Something needs to change in the link up play to get the ball to Gomes. Maybe DvdB can take over that task while Allan focusses on disrupting the other team. Or Lampard gets a tune out of Doucouré and Davies, if both are fit again.

Actually 3 in midfield might also not be enough. Lampard needs to realise a. We are in relegation fight and b. Fancy attacking formations we dont have the players for. Having 3 attackers is useless when you cant get passed the midfield. Saturday we gonna play against a well oiled 451 team. We deff gonna need a 4 mans midfield. Also, we have no functioning defense. Basically our defense is defenders plus midfield.

What Frank is trying is nice but as demonstrated, it took only one game for Howe to figure it out to counter. Hindsight is easy but id rather we got some great dms than attacking midfielders. That said, vdb can play as a dm.

Was clear to everyone that Newcastle were going to press us a lot harder than Brentford, Lampard should have knew this, therefore keeping 2 slow midfielders in Allan and Gomes was asking for trouble. Gomes wet himself from the first whistle and Allan had try and cover 2 roles

In hindsight they pressed us more than Brentford yes. Looking on here yesterday most wanted the team to remain unchanged then to bring on other options if needed.
Regarding Gomes, he had the best game I’d seen him play on Saturday and I was hoping to see that again tonight but he was his usual self. He’s Got plenty of attributes but just not suited to our league.

Newcastle wanted it more than we did and it’s as simple as that. They looked dangerous in attack and actually knew how to get the ball forward.

Also, why do we continue to pass around the back?. We literally have no defenders that know how to pass and yet we continue to do it.

Difficult for Lampard because there's a lot of players to choose from but only a handful in any sort of form. He'll have no idea who his best XI is now. Not a good place to be.
